More Wiper Problems

hi all, got a problem with my galaxy 2.3 (2001) y reg one morning in the cold i started my car and de-iced the car and my front wipers justed stopped working for about 3 mins,then they worked only on fast speed,slow speed would hardly move,the wiper would shake as they moved then would stop,but if i put it on fast it would work for about 20 then slow down and stop but would come back on after a 5 min break,i took it to the garage and they checked the wiper motor and all was fine so they put grease on somethink and all was well for about a week, then back to the same problems,has anybody got any clues as what is going on many thanks to you all

The wipers are almost seized. Its a very common issue which will require a strip down of the wiper linkage and proper greasing ASAP - the longer its left the greater the chance of needing replacement parts which are expensive.

 

The reason they stop working is the motor detects overcurrent (basically it sees it needs too much power to turn the wipers) and shuts off, the same as if the wipers had collided mid sweep - therefore protecting the motor from immediate damage. If the linkage isn't free'd up quickly then there is still a chance of motor burn out so dont delay. I believe there are instruction in the FAQ for this.
