Can you clarify what you mean by "setting up the central locking system" - do you mean getting it to work after diconnecting battery to replace a lock or what?

...and childlock system - what do you mean? The levers that operate the locks, or the childproof lock-out for electric rear windows?

Vehicle age?

Sounds like the linkage is not set up correctly. Did you replace the lock yourself? If so, sounds like the door trim needs to come off and then the mechanism adjusted until the lock works - try this before you put the trim back on.

If you don't want to risk doing this yourself, a body repair shop should sort it for less than a main dealer's workshop prices.

When you say its hard to push the latch in to lock the doors, you mean the internal door opening latch?

Try removeing the trim panel under the latch and loosening the securing screw allowing the latch to move a bit and reseat itself.

It could be that the lever is not getting full travel and not operating the locking mech fully!

Do you have remote central locking? if so to stop the low life scum doing the same trick again swap the front door handles with a set of rear ones with no locks in them! its a lot cheaper than getting new keys and barrels

Hi Nimrod,

On your suggestion,

Have you done this ?

Sounds like a good idea, but do you have a contingency plan if the Central Locking fails ?

Not yet, i have done it to the passenger door due to the lock going U/S!

The contingency plan for getting into the car if the central locking fails is to climb in through the rear hatch if both doors are delocked!
