4k will get you a decent 2000 model, there are early MKIIs i believe end of 2000.

A ghia is a good buy, there is a thread on what to look for when buying a galaxy, crushed cills, if the climate control etcc works..

Buy yerp. sounds good to me.

welcome :)

Thank you mumof4..

I have read ther what to look out for thread.. Very helpfull.

so you think i'd be making a good choice and to look out for a ghia.. is there anything to stay away from?

Posted

yep, good choice, i bought my N reg GLX IN APRIL, shes a good runner with a few niggles.

The ghia is a bloody good model, just check everything that should work, works, and that it starts ok from cold, Test drive first thing in morning and get there early to make sure its not been started up before you get there.

Stay away from anything that at first glance, you do not like. The longer you look, the more you will persuade yerself you want it.

Don't buy the ones with the clear back windows....you get roasted in them.....actually they all get very hot on a sunny day.

The 2.0l petrols struggle a bit as they are underpowered.

The Mk1's have less issues than the Mk2's but obviously they will be older and as such may have more issues due to general wear.

The auto's are nicer to drive but can be very expensive when they go wrong.

Definitely go for a Ghia if you can find one as you get a lot more for little more cost.

Don't get a green one as they are invisible to Audi driver's....or was that just mine !

Don't buy one from anyone on here as it will have a load of problems...or is that just mine :)

Hello, Just got back from looking at it.. 1st impressions it looks good, I can tell it's been looked after both inside and out very clean.. all basic checked done and I'm pleased to say it passed them all, no signs of water, uneven tyre damage, all electrics worked etc. The 2 most important things haven't been checked yet.. how it drives and the engine! I have asked my uncle to come along at weekend and look at it for me he's a mechanic and worked on many cars/lorries so he will give it a check over.. It is missing the owners hand book so the service history can't be confirmed but hopefully if it's all working that

If you found it online, have you a link?

if no service history, and if not known when belt was changed, is best to do these things.

can i ask, why didnt you test drive it?

Hi,

It's on a well known car trading website.. not sure if I can say (advertising rules?)

I am hoping that my uncle will be able to tell what work has been done or needs doing. The garage I use mark dates/mileage on casing which is helpful. But if he can't I will get them done to be safe if I purchase the Gal.

I never took it for a text drive as it was my lunch hour ( turned in 2 hours) due to travelling time by the time I got there it was already near time to head back.. I called work and asked for a bit extra time which was just enough to check it over inside and out.

one good thing,it sounds like youd be getting a warranty,

make sure you haggle over the length f so called warranty

and try to get the aircon included.

Thank you.. just hope no-one beats me to her.. can't go back till weekend due to my uncles commitments.. fingers crossed.

I'll be in touch either way 1st thing Monday AM..

I've just bought a FORD GALAXY Si V16 on a R plate 2.3i with only 82k miles on it, it has a few scratches and missing wing mirror but the interior is spot on and the engine is sound! all for only 900 quid! Bargain, just goes to show you dont have to spend loads to get a decent motor, did have to travel 150 miles to get it thou!!
