I've just had to replace my Kenwood KDC-M4524G with the originally supplied Scala unit :( (which I removed on the dealers forecourt on picking up the car) In comparison to the Kenwood it sounds pretty average!

The radio coverage is much much better, with the Scala unit picking up about 5 times as many stations :o - could this be something to do with the "window aerial" and the Scala being designed to use it? :o

My Kenwood is going back for a warranty repair - an intermittent problem I've had from new :o - it goes silent for about a second intermittently on some occasions - usually it works perfectly. I bought it from Car Audio Direct who were cheap :) and delivered within 48hrs :) :) . Now that it's gone wrong :( , they've even arranged for a courier to pick it up from my work tomorrow at no charge to me - excellent service!!! :) :) :)

The improvement in reception will be down to the scala unit being able to power the aerial amplifier! you could get the bit of kit from car audio direct that will power the amp and let you run the kenwood head unit with possibly improved radio reception!

When I had mine fitted, they put a booster in for me & I can get even more than with the scala unit.

As you say the Kenwwod sounds much better. I have the speaker setting to the 6x4. I now have got another one for my wife's Punto.

Incidently you can now have a Blaupunkt MP3 fitted by SEAT but I don't see the point when you can get something just as good & cheaper.

Thanks to both of you for the advice - I'll contact Car Audio Direct.

After registering my problem with C.A.D.'s approved repairer at 10pm last night, they arranged for a courier to collect the unit from my workplace today - it was collect by a very helpful CityLink Courier - all at no cost to me - at this rate they'll have it back before I next need to use it - Now that's service - shame they don't service cars!!

I gets better. The engineer phoned me at work on Fiday afternoon. He explained that he'd come accross omething in the trade press which explained this "feature" with the kenwood - it was basically RDS interference under certain conditions (the CD sound cuts out VERY intermittently). The workaround is to switch off AF Search or switch to AM when listening to CD's. He said he put it on soak test over the weekend and I'll have it back by Tuesday - how's that for service!

Has anyone else experienced this with the kenwood?

If you've got a radio that needs fixing outside warranty, they do it for a fixed
