austin Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Hi all,i have a problem on the left hand side of the car on all speakers like they are popping as if there is too much base going through them.had it have been one speaker then it would be that but since its all speakers from the tweeter to the rear just on the left i figured its the head unit.Off to ebay i go and order one which i am still waiting for however whilst im browsing this site i come accross a thread which informs me that the galaxy radios are more square!Guess which one i got coming? So do you think i could swop the fronts on the radios around or not a good idea? Also has anybody else had this sort of problem if so was it the head unit or something else?cheersaustinforgot to say gal 1.9 tdi ghia 02 regAdd to that if it is the radio and nothing else and i cant change the fronts around is there any nice person who got one knocking about who would like to donate the cause for a skint dippy galaxy owner who bought the wrong radio  Edited July 3, 2008 by austin Quote
NICKADAY Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 i had the same problem with that unit and i would be hesitant about buying another as they are generally rubbish head units. i replaced mine with a new sony bluetooth/mp3/cd unit with adaptors all for less than Quote
austin Posted July 4, 2008 Author Report Posted July 4, 2008 well it turned out not too be the head unit after all so must be wires or speaker ;) all ok if i fade just to the back left but if i fade to front left it sounds like a blown speaker and that affects the rear speakers as well either the tweeter or passenger speaker any tips on how to check?cheersaustin Quote
chromedome Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Just me thinking. If like you say only one speaker has gone, maybe it's changing the overall impedence on that channel. When you buy seperates for your home hi-fi you have to make sure the speaker impedence matches the amplifier output. So if one of your speaker coils was starting to fail would this affect everything? I hope you follow my trail of thought. You could check by measuring the resistance across the right and left channels on the radio plug to see if there is any difference. Quote
AndyMan Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Sorry, rather late reply but might be helpful galaxy radios are more square! Yeah, 'tis true but look carefully and you'll see the curved standard radio inside a bit of extra moulding to fit the square (VW) hole. The entire front can be carefully removed. In some cases you need to swap the LCD panel too as the connectors vary. On eBay be careful to get the right model, with a volume knob or up/down buttons as the knob is NOT part of the front panel, but pokes through a hole. Worked okay for me Andy Quote
