Abs Ring Or Pump?

Hi everyone,

 

the abs warning light on my 98 Sharan 1.9 tdi comes on when the ignition is turned on then goes out after the self check however when the car gets to 18mph it then comes back on. Having had the car checked with VAG COM it has come up with the error

 

01276 ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64)

 

16-10 Signal Outside Specification Intermittant.

 

 

When the light first came on I visually checked the sensors and rings and found that the offside front ring was part cracked in a numer of places and it had been rubbing against the sensor. Am I looking at two faults here or is vag-com for some reason not flagging up the wheel sensor issue. The only good news is that the car has just passed its mot so at least that panic is over.
