I went to use the car today and noticed that the computer in the dash was blank - the display with average speed, mpg etc was obviously not receiving any power.

Everything else seems to be working fine.

The weather has been dry for a while, but it rained last night and I wondered if water has got into the electrics somehow.

I also had it serviced a few weeks back, and the air-con recharged shortly after, so the insides have been fiddled with twice.

Any chance this has happened to someone else?

Maybe there is a wire that is easily detached under the bonnet?

Incidentally, the car was owned by a leasing company for 5 years before I bought it, and it came with full Ford service history. When the chap in my local garage did the major service for me recently he found the original sparks, original fuel filter (clogged and full of water), and original pollen filter were all still fitted. Since the service my fuel efficiency has gone up a couple of mpg.

The coolant in the aircon was 80% gone.

I hope this computer problem is as easily fixed.

Obviously this doesn't ring a bell with anyone...so can anyone help me with looking for the fuse that controls this function?

The hope would be that it depends on a single fuse that has blown, but it seems unlikely that that could be the answer, with everything else still working.

Another thought I had was that perhaps the battery voltage has dropped a bit (the car stands unused a lot of the time) and the computer is more sensitive than the other gadgets.

After the recent dry period, the computer has started working again, so dampness seems to be the most likely cause.

Either that or the demons that had invaded it have decided to depart as mysteriously as they arrived.

But my money's on the rain.
