simonashley Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 I'm beginging to think the compressor is leaking on mine (if thats what the call it the thing that looks as though its attached to the radiator and probably is !) i took the cap of it and it was very challkyand dusty in there. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff129/simonashley1/09072008221.jpg Quote
mikej Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 (edited) Thats the reciever / drier tube and yes its attatched to your condensor ( smaller aircon rad , the main coolant radiator is fitted behind this ) just replaced mine , if you fire up your aircon and run it flatout for a few mins then pour a little light oil like 3in1 or lighter etc into the top of the tube while its running , have a look for small bubbles or any sort of fizzing from around the circlip this is where mine was leaking and must be 99% of all others leak , very common fault on the galaxy, sharan etc . A new unit is easy to fit if you can use a spanner and the cost of a new condensor which comes complete with a new reciever/drier , already installed i might add is approx Edited July 29, 2008 by mikej Quote
Mauser Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Hi since you guys have similar models to me any chance you could tell me if the relay under the dash clicks once when you turn the cruise control on or dies it sound like it clicks then drops out ?. Mine is borked I can turn it on by sliding the slector out and I get a click, but as soon as it springs back the same click appears again as if the unit is dis-engaging straight away. Pump powers up ok and draws a vaccum, pipe has been tested and repaired where perished as normal. Not sure what else to look @ apart from the cruise module which seems buried under the dash and to be honest not worth the digging.Any help would be aprreciated. Quote
mikej Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Hi mate i only get a very faint single click when activating the cruise at the stalk , its not one of the two pedal switches faulty and deactivating the cruise is it as you will hear another click if you were to tap one of those shortly after activation ??? As for locating the dreaded cruise control module i think its tucked away above the clutch pedal high up , i spent days trying to locate it and its deffo not behind the stereo on the mk2.best of luck .........p.s are you sure you have located all the leaks in the pipework?????mike. Mauser Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Hi Mike,I am sure the peddle switches are OK mind you I only have the brake 1 as mine is an Auto, tested this by driving along and then pressing the peddle just after engaging the CC, this has the effect of knocking the relay out so I am sure the switches are OK. TIS says the module is behing the stereo/climate unit which looks terrible to get to. before any vaccum is generated the pump would still have to start first, which still points me in the direction of an electrical issue. Don't think the pump would not start without any vaccum as it needs this first to maintain itself, if you get my drift. Once started I agree that any loss of vacuum would then cause the valve/relay inside the pump unit to open and then drop the vacuum and inturn stop controlling the vehicles throttle via the diaphragm by the peddle. Something is making the relay under the dash drop out ?, pump doesn't even have time to start brake switch is fine no blown bulbs. Most annoying but couldn't face taking car to bits to find the control module..... mikej Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 TIS says the module is behing the stereo/climate unit which looks terrible to get to.I have a mk2 2.3 ghia 2001 and i can assure you there is no cruise control module behind it , i removed half the bloody dash including the stereo and climate and it ain't in there spent days trying to locate it eventually located what i thought was the cc module which was positoined approx 6-8 inches above my clutch pedal, tucked away up under the dash it looked exactly like the unit concerned fag packet size with the correct plug going to it but after asking for more help to identify it , ie part numbers etc i gave up due to the lack of response and left it there as i didn't want to take it off if it wasn't the actual unit etc... simonashley Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 Oh dear  could it be the dreaded wiper mechanism seizure ? had that already stripped and rebuilt last year ! if i'm being honest i'd be bored if this car behaved although the bloody aircon is emptying my wallet ! Well the wipers finally siezed up yesterday and are refusing to budge, theyre stuck across the windscreen and every now and again just twitch! so i guess/hope the motor is still trying to move them and is ok, its going into the garage on tuesday to be stripped down and cleaned out as he quoted me a new one for Quote
