Help please

My son has put a lot of coins into the tape slot of our 5000RDS. I have removed the radio and I think all of the coins, however the radio is now dead. I have checked the fuse on the back of the radio and this seems ok. Although I did have to replace the fuse for the radio in the main fuse box as this had blown. After numerous google searches and a bit of lost hair (the children love music in the car) I have finally stumbled upon this site, where I hope someone has a miracle cure.

Please help.

Thanks

Don't think you'll find a miracle cure Mark and if the fuse has blown and unless it has an in-line fuse you can check then it sounds fried. Have a look on E-Bay for a 6000 series as you can get these at a reasonable price and can play CD's.

Thanks Bleeno. That is now my conclusion.

Flea bay it is then.

I dont suppose you know what the phone symbol on the front of the 5000 series means?

Thanks

There is a fuse on the back of the unit itself, which I would meter out to ensure its not blown. If its taken out the main fuse though then one of the coins has shorted out something inside, if that was a PCB then chances are its taken that with it and its not fried.

The "PHONE" display indicates that pin 5 on the yellow connector is at ground, this is how a car kit would mute your radio. If you dont have one connected then either there is a coin still in there or that PCB is completly fried as well.

I have a 6000 for a galaxy if you need it - PM me

Thanks Mirez, but I am looking for another 5000 as I've got the cd changer in the boot.

No problems, are you still using the tape player then? I only ask because the 6000CD is compatiable with the changer so you still get your 6 disc unit but also an extra one up front :16:

Its in the for sale section now ;)
