Guest karimata Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 From reading others posts I think this is a very common problem with Galaxys, Alhambras and Sharans. Once the central locking started acting oddly the first place to look was under the passenger seat to check the module out. As I'm sure a lot of people already realise, the recess where the module and rear tailgate relay are situated was full of water. Disconnected the module, carefully removed plastic cover, which took with it the tails of all the corroded 'through board' components. After some hours with a soldering iron and patch cable I'd managed to bypass most of the obviously damaged tracks, got the box partly working, but not perfect. Got quote from Ford for new module- Quote
Guest nimrod Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 IIRC I think it was deciced that box is needed to run the central locking and a remote unit can be added to it, the module in question runs just more than the central locking! its responsible for the courtesy light delay and the alarm if fitted as well as the central locking I'm sure mine didnt cost that much when it needed replaceing? will dig out the invoice and let you know Quote
Guest karimata Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Thank for the reply I'll shop around and see if I can get a similar good deal.Inchcape Ford in Wokingham are obviously a bunch of robbers quoting three times the price. Quote
Guest Wanny Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Karimata, be careful as I have found there seems to be 3 different modules. - One which controls just the central locking fitted to basic models Quote
iainkirk Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 VW dealer parts prices probably are different to Fords....they're probably EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE! Quote
Guest nimrod Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Some VW parts prices are a lot dearer! Ford wanted Quote
Guest karimata Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Thanks Wanny for clarifying the different module pricing. My module is the Quote
