Taliska Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 Why, oh why, does my radio (Model 5000 jobbie) insist on changing stations for the travel announcements. :o I've fiddled with that TA button - I'm at a loss. :o When I select Radio 4, I don't want Radio Solent coming on with the travel news - I don't care because I'm probably already sitting in the traffic jam they're talking about and I don't need to be reminded of it. :o Any ideas? Guest nimrod Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 My understanding of TA is that the radio will pick up and play traffic annoucements from either the station your listening to if they do them or it will seek out a station that does broadcast TA's and play them as they are available the radio will show TP on the display if it is tuned into a TA boadcasting station or it will display TP SEEK while it looks for one if a pre programend station is selected using a pre set button it will stay on that station and not play the TA's untill you you hit the TA button again, now it gets difficult as the 5000 is rds eon equiped which means it will hold and store a list of other stations that play TA's and play these stations if its primary station has weak signal! you can set the unit to pick up local or distant TA reports! take a look at page's 35 to 38 of the audio guide it may just be easier to switch the TA's off! just press the TA button while there's not one playing and it should switch them off! Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 If you've programmed the preset button with TA enabled, it may automatically select TA whenever you press it. Have you tried checking the display and making sure that the TA is off each time that you switch the "ignition" on?If there is no TA on display but the radio is still switching stations for the travel bulletins, then there is a fault. Taliska Posted February 25, 2004 Author Report Posted February 25, 2004 Thanks both of you, I'll have a close look again at it to see how it's set up - you never know, the kids might keep switching it on when they fiddle. As far as I recall, the TA-D indicator is not normally showing. Taliska. Quote
Taliska Posted March 18, 2004 Author Report Posted March 18, 2004 Blow me down - it did it again tonight. TA definately switched off - it changed from BBC Radio 4 to BBC Radio Solent while driving up the A36 at 6:03pm (or thereabouts). I wonder if it's getting its AF knickers in a twist? Maybe it thinks that the Radio Solent signal is better than Radio 4 and swapping to it? Anyone else had this? Taliska. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Not quite but similar. And it's also when listening to Radio 4, strangely...I've had the sort of 1 second switch to a local station (sounds like BBC) when venturing south down the M3 or A3 towards the coast. Could be a BBC glitch in the R4 RDS information perhaps??? It's happened to the standard-fit Philips radio-cassette in my Renault Scenic too, so it's not just a Ford radio thing. Quote
seatkid Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I have a similar problem.... keep getting "are we there yet?" and "how much longer is it?" from somewhere in the back... Quote
iainkirk Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Turn the radio up then Seatkid! Taliska: It sounds like your 5000 stereo is dickie....I've got a spare brand new one if you want to replace yours (cough, cough)... /me waits for someone to start a "they're only Quote
Taliska Posted March 22, 2004 Author Report Posted March 22, 2004 Ah well, thanks for the offer, but mine's still covered under its warranty! It did it again tonight - went to WAVE instead !?! If you have one to sell, then have you replaced your own, if so what with? Taliska Quote
Mussey1 Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Taliska, It must be your kids changing the station!! It would ruin their street cred if any of their mates got in and thought they listened to Radio 4!! By the way are radio 4 and solent on the same waveband? I know that over here in N.Ireland BBC Radio Ulster changes to BBC Radio Foyle the further North West you drive. I think they share the same frequency. Mussey1. Quote
Taliska Posted March 24, 2004 Author Report Posted March 24, 2004 There's no one else in the car, but me... Unless... ...I'm accidentally clonking the rdio buttons on the steering wheel... Now there's a thought! Taliska Quote
