Hi All,

Hello, new member here. My wife drives the Galaxy but I try and sort out the problems.

Problem we have is if you accelerate, the engine revs but you don't go any faster. Also the cruise control switches itself off (maybe related problem?). My initial thought is the clutch is going or slipping. Ford have said if it is clutch wear then not covered under the Ford Direct warranty (car has 29000mls on it).

First of all, anyone else had this?

Secondly, surely a clutch going at under 30k with normal driving is a fault.

Thanks

Hi there King o and welcome to the forum.

Certainly sounds as if the clutch is slipping (judging by the drop off of the cruise) but a faulty clutch at 30K is unusuall. Fraud are very good at not wanting to pay for things.

I'm sure other members have had sinilar dealings so will be able to help you further.

Good luck

The key phrase here is "clutch wear". Although unusual at such a low mileage it is always possible due to different driving styles and usage conditions so this would not be covered by warranty.

However, if a manufacturing defect or other fault is found then they would have to honour the warranty. Has this happened suddenly (possible fault) or has it gradually got worse (wear)? The clutch plate could be getting contaminated by oil leaking from elsewhere, causing it to slip.

At the end of the day you need to get it fixed anyway and you might be lucky and get it done under warranty.

Dealer says clutch plate wore badly. This car is driven normally, it is 2 1/2 yrs old 29000mls - I think we will be changing!!

Oh and it will be

I assume you had the car from new? If not, there's no telling what the previous owner did!

It might also be worth checking with VW and Seat dealers whether they've had similar problems with diesel Sharans and Alhambras of the same age since the mechanicals are the same. If they're having to repair under warranty then Ford should do the same.
