romanron Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 Hi all had my mk111 2ltr tdci less than a week done 14100 0n a 56 plate air con not working hoping it was just gas, but hey i picked one with duff electrics. Ringway fords at Doncaster looked at it told me it is an electrical problem, could not trace the fault has now got to be booked in for two days any one else have same prob. I love the car drives great economy cant be faulted im getting 44.6 combined. Just had tow bar fitted removable Quote
traveller Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Not sure yet if I have the same problem or not - getting it booked in for a check seems on a par with getting tickets to the Queens garden party. Mind you, with the way GK Ford have looked after it so far, I'd hazard a guess that the Queen might have more idea how to fix it anyway. My '07 plate 2.0 TDCi delivers a mini-tsunami from the dash vents, but it doesn't get discernably cooler with the air-con on. Not so happy with the economy as you - I did a 400 mile round trip to north Wales on Sunday at an average of 51.0 mpg dead according to the dash, which sounds good until I say that I was deliberately trying to get its best possible mpg on the trip and didn't exceed 2000 revs on the whole journey. Brimming the tank when I got home showed that to actually be 45.8 mpg. Still, I did have the air-con on on a fair bit of the journey (til I realised it wasn't doing anything), and the car has a pair of roof bars on because GK Ford cant find the key to take them off! romanron Posted June 12, 2008 Author Report Posted June 12, 2008 Hi Traveller your right about booking in its a night mare must be us mk111 owners keeping them busy. My mpg was half town and motorway driving roof bars do increase mpg quite a bit. Your problem with air con sounds the same air con runs you can hear it cut in out but no cold air and as i said the gas level fine so frustrating my Toyota preview never let me down Ive had two since 2000 both reliable never mind i should have learned when i brought a mondeo the last shape spent most of the time in the garage with techs that did not have a clue fords could do with learning from Toyota on how to treat customers as well. Good luck with yours will post you if i resolve prob thxs Quote
Johnny B Goode Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Hi , had the same problem with my `56 2.0 TDI Ghia , booked it in and picked it up the same day . . . .fixed !I asked to see the jobsheet and it said they`d recharged the gas but still wasn`t working , checked the electrics with thier computer and then did a "visual check" of the wiring and found a wire had come disconnected !. .. Job done ! The trouble is these days the "teccys" seem to rely too much on what the computer says.... By the way , our Galaxy returns 41-45 mpg (on the computer) which is mainly short journeys ( school runs and shopping etc. ) , it`s got 12500 miles on it and the original front tyres are going to be lucky to make 18-20,000 miles ! Good luck with yours.. John Quote
traveller Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Ahhh, tyres, I wish you hadn't mentioned them. Personally I think you'll be hugely lucky if you get 18k out of them, since mine are only 2mm off the wear bands and the car has nine and a half thousand miles on it. No, I'm not kidding... I actually bought this car from photos on their site, since when I went to visit it wasn't there (their sales manager was using it himself) and when I did see it in the flesh I immediately noticed that all four tyres were very well worn. Not illegal by any means, but this car cost me over twenty grand used, so I asked for the tyres to be replaced when it was being serviced prior to collection. When I picked it up, the tyres hadn't been changed, but I have a plan anyway - the car is back in for the aircon to be fixed on Tuesday and I'm planning on not giving them their courtesy car back and collecting the Galaxy until its wearing some new boots! PS I did originally think it was possible I was being conned a bit, and that the dealer had been swapping wheels about between vehicles, since I couldn't believe that they were going to need replacing before 12k came round. But speaking to my local tyre mob, they reckoned that it was just about conceivable that a big heavy fwd mpv could eat a set of soft Goodyears in 12k. Quote
