RIPOFF Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Hi all I have a 53 galaxy and the cam belt has just gone after having it fitted approx 3 months ago, i suspect the cause is the water pump although it has not been confirmed yet. My question is would the valves be damaged on this type of engine because i have been told not all engine valves get damaged. I don't fully understand the technical bits so any infomation would be appreciated. Regards Ripoff. Quote
seatkid Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 My question is would the valves be damaged on this type of engine because i have been told not all engine valves get damaged. Unfortunately yes, (I assume its 1.9 diesel) But AFAIK the water pump is not driven by the cam belt. If the cambelt was changed by a dealer, he should have changed the tensioner (most likely cause of failure) and I would think you could claim against him. Quote
RIPOFF Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Thanks for that mate yes it is a 1.9 tdi but i was also told that if the waterpump bearings o that this could cause the damage to the cam belt is this not the case? Quote
RIPOFF Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Hi guysI have another question could anybody explain what drives the waterpump? Regards Ripoff. Quote
seatkid Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Sorry I was wrong, I've checked and it seems that the water pump is driven by the cambelt on a PD engine. Quote
RIPOFF Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Thank for the infomation mate just as i thought lady luck was on my side. Any ideas of cost for repair? Quote
NikpV Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 just had cambelt done and was told by ford dealer that it was guaranteed against failure for 5years/40k buit that the water pump which I had done at the same time was guaranteed for 12 months Quote
big_kev Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Hi all I have a 53 galaxy and the cam belt has just gone after having it fitted approx 3 months ago, i suspect the cause is the water pump although it has not been confirmed yet. I agree with Seatkid on this....the most likely reason for failure was incorrect fitting. The cost of repair will be difficult to decide until after inspection of the damage. Quote
jkspoff Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 If it was a main dealer then the parts are warrantied for 12 months. Quote
RIPOFF Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Thanks for the replies guys, I will find out tomorrow from the garage after the inspection but thanks again for the infomation. Regards Ripoff. Quote
