davandor Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Brakes are working fine most of the time but yesterday I nearly rear ended the car in front - I pressed the brake pedal and whilst it did work performance was very poor - the next time I pressed it, was fine again - this is a 2005 1.9tdi 34,000 miles which was only serviced in April and brake fluid changed the year before - pads and discs look okay but as it seems intermittent the fault must lie elsewhere - any ideas? andymet Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 HiPossible a crack in the hard plastic vacuum pipe between the servo and the vacuum pump. Check the connections where it goes into the none return valve (situated at the back of the engine 6" to the left of the fuel filter). If the hard plastic pipe slides off it is cracked, a tempory repair is to wrap amalgamating tape around both sides(Availble from maplins) until you have time to change itAndy Met Quote
neiluk Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I've been having the same intermittent problem with mine. I tested it today and it seems to happen when I press the brake peddle rapidly as you would at the start of an emergency stop. The peddle is hard to press and does not depress much at all. If the pressure is continued the peddle softens up and brakes work much motre as normal. Pressing the peddle normally straight afterwards gives usual braking performance. Do Galaxy's have some form of 'brake assist' to speed up the response time of the brake peddle? I was wondering if this is what it might be. If not I think I should get it looked at sometime. Neil.
