big_kev Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Bloody Nightmare ! I was stupid enough to install this without reading up on it first... Symptoms afterwards.....corrupt registry...no Device manager....no Network connections....Itunes dead...USB drives not recognised...Extreme delay when opening My Computer or Windows explorer. Turns out to have been an issue with Norton Security.....although they deny it and blame microsoft. Anyhow resolution was to uninstall service pack 3....which had no apparent effect ! Tried system Restore to earlier points....no effect ! Then fully uninstalled all Norton products. Reinstalled Service Pack 3. Reinstalled Norton. Everything now seems okey dokey.....hopefully. Have fun.. Quote
teresa Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 i installed service pack 3 the other day bloody nightmare took ages to download, then pc kept freezing and i havent got norton... but seems to be ok now maybe if i have an affair with my pc might work properly Quote
seatkid Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 I suggest that you: Clean and check your system for spyware, viruses etc. - better still do a fresh install Ditch the all antivirus and all the other "protection"crapware (esp Norton) Install Spywareblaster and CCleaner Create a "user account" with limited access (i.e. no admin rights). Study and enable all the firewall features on your router (I assume it is a decent router). Even better if you block unused ports. Then for surfing and other day to day use, use the user account......no programs can be "installed" whilst in the user account as it does not have admin rights. Quote
