cos140 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 HI Everyone, Along with the silly rise in fuel prices the government are now proposing to raise the raod tax on all cars, but for some reason Galaxy's and other MPV's are getting stung !! :D I own a 2001 V6 24V Galaxy Mk2 and currently pay Quote
davewill Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 I have a 2006 TDI Auto and the emissions on this are higher than the TDI Manual. This is crazy as a) i get more MPG on the Auto than i used to on the manual, and :D the higer emissions puts it into the "Gas Guzzler" tax bracket, meaning i will be paying Quote
seatkid Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 I have little sympathy for people who have big v6's etc who moan about road tax, running costs etc. The writings been on the wall for a long time and although the VED changes are little sudden, it seems reasonably fair to me. Neither do I see this tax as backdating. Tax has to be raised somehow, if the PM wants to lower income tax, then something has to step in to take its place. If you wanted a cheap car to run, you should have done your homework and bought an appropriate model. You have seven seats, so per person it is still cheaper to run than a Range Rover, isnt it? :D BTW the EU is now looking to lower the average CO2 output to less than 95g/km by 2020. It may seem ridiculous but then so do the average American cars of the 1960's that barely managed 10 mpg. Quote

faz Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 In my opinion VED is an unfair tax and should be scrapped completely, I drive a company vehicle and average approx 40000 miles a year, my wife drives the Galaxy about 5000 miles a year, but the VED on both vehicles is about the same how can this be fair. cos140 Posted May 28, 2008 Author Report Posted May 28, 2008 hi seatkid, Im not really moaning about the running costs of the V6 Galaxy. I knew before i bought it that it wasnt going to be brilliant on fuel, and to be honest i find it pretty good on fuel considering the size of the engine and the weight of the vehicle. I get on average 32 mpg and can get close to 40 on a run. Im happy with that. Yes, put your foot down and your in the teens!! It's the road tax that bugs me, it always feels like 'dead money'. especially when its supposed to go for the upkeep of Britains roads. Quote

sappers Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 As far as I can work out, the extra tax is for MPs expenses and second homes and also so they can afford to employ wives girlfriends children etc. Quote

Slow Lane Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Looking at the government web site which lists all current vehicles and which tax bands they fall into, I note they have a 2009 Galaxy with reduced CO2 emmissions. A 2.0 TDCi is now down from 165 g/km for a 2008 model to 159 which drops into into the lower tax band for the new and yet to be launched tax bands coming in a year. I can't find any info on a 2009 Galaxy. Can anyone shed any light on this - is it just a weight reduction to make the lower banding. Check out : www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/search.asp Quote
