marinabrid Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 hi allferfering to this common problem of sticky turbo vanes, has anyone actually ever heard of this turbo claener product that someone sprayed in the air intake, ? wonder if it was carb cleaner.how can you clean the carbon off , surely the direct way to the turbo is by any air passing over it, so how can any chemical survive the heat to dissolve the carbon could a fuel additve help at all, it all seems a bit impossible to me, Quote
geoffc Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Bit dodgy spraying anything into the air intake on a diesel. I had a similar problem with a recently bought Sharan MK2.....fixed it by filling tank half full, then adding a full can of Forte injector cleaner to the fuel. Took the car on a high speed run, about 250 miles, no turbo problems now! Quote

Turvey Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Mate of mine(who used to work in a garage) suggested BBQ/oven cleaner :D Take of exhaust and spray liberally he tells me. Leave it for a couple of hours/overnight, replace exhaust and start the car. Reason being its carbon that sticks the turbo and BBQ cleaner cleans carbon i.e burnt food. Only thing is I've not been brave enough to give it a try.............yet!! Dont suppose it could do any harm as the cleaner cant get into the gubbins of the engine as you would spray it into the turbo on the outlet side of it only. Would intersted in hearing other peoples opinions before I tried it on my only mode of transport though :D Quote
