Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 (sigh) went to put a CD into standard-fit 6-disc multichanger today - first time I've tried to use the thing in months as I'm basically a "tape" person, and the cartridge won't eject when the orange button is pressed. If I press the CD button on the radio-cassette (5000 unit), CD-1 appears on the display rather than an error message.Anyone got any tips whilst I search out my op manual and radio release keys?TIAIvor Update: dug out manual and there's nothing about how to remove a malfunctioning magazine. As no error code shows, it appears that the head unit recognises the changer, so how do I remove the magazine? I used the "search" function on the site but it didn't produce anything that helps. ALARM MAN Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Sorry mate only have factory fitted 6 disc on 98 Gal but it has had same probs took it out and apart then released it Me thinks it could be a bit tricky with yours Ian Quote
seatkid Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Haven't got a CD changer but... If you've got more than one CD loaded in the magazine, have you tried selecting another CD so that the internal mechanism shuffles about. Does it still play? Or is a cd jammed? Maybe there is an emergency manual ejection hole like computer CD players have. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 23, 2004 Author Report Posted February 23, 2004 It's empty at the moment and I cannot see a hole into which an unbent paperclip can be inserted to open it.From what Alarm man says, it needs to come out of the car and be opened up. Assuming that it's held in by just the 2 visible fixing bolts inside the rear rhs panel, this is no problem as I've previously dismantled and repaired domestic hifi cassette deck mechanisms - so long as the fault is simple and NOT electronically based! iainkirk Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Are you in or out of warranty Ivor? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 23, 2004 Author Report Posted February 23, 2004 Out of warranty by 4 weeks!Prefer to tackle this myself if it's going to be simple rather than loose the car for a whole day to be told "we need to order the parts in" or "we need to wait for the auto electrician to call in"!!!Tomorrow, time and weather permitting, during my lunch hour I'll pull the head unit out and unplug the CD changer cable, wait a while then re-plug it in. Currently the head unit thinks that it has a working changer connected, it will display CD-1 through to CD-6, with track time of 0:00. Most odd...... Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 24, 2004 Author Report Posted February 24, 2004 Got it working again! Best feeling I've had all year! (well, almost). There is a small hole into which a paperclip can be inserted to release a jammed magazine. However - I disconnected the wiring multiplug at the changer end, waited 10 seconds or thereabouts, plugged it back in, and Bingo. The changer did have to come out to get to the plug though, but now that I know how the release clip works, if it does it again I may manage to sort it without having to take it out of the storage bin.
