add Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 sorry if these has already been covered, but when i switch off the old gal their is a low buzzing coming through the top of the dash board / top of engine bay this lasts for 2/3 minutes and then stops. is this normal .also have lost water feed to rear washers .thanks add Quote
chromedome Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 The noise is probably the electric auxiliary water pump. This runs for a few minutes after the engine is switched off to prevent hot spots building up within the engine. If it's noisy it normally needs replacing. It can be found at the back right of the engine bay near the expansion joint. No rear windscreen wash. Does the pump operate but no water? If so the water pipe connection has probably come apart in the passenger foot well, is the carpet wet? If you do a search you will find more information about both these items. Hope this helps. Quote
add Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 no not noisey just a hum and passenger carpet not wet yet so i will investigate. thanks chromedome..... Quote
chromedome Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Yes it does sort of hum. If you move it about whilst it's running it will probably go quiet. It can play up for ages until it eventually stops. I think it's something to do with the bearings and someone on here has successfully changed them. Try a search because it costs around Quote
