red diesel has two differences to white diesel

the easy one to spot is the colour

second is a chemical trace in it

customs dont look for colour its the trace they go for you can remove the red in a graphite filter

but if you asked around diesel drivers how many have been checked i think it will be very small

unless your a farmer or work on a building site

red costs from 60-80 p / L

i believ it can only be sold in 20L containers

not sure i would risk it long term as trace stays in tank for a while but tempted to to try occasionaly

I think you'll also find that its probably the old fashioned high sulphur diesel and so will not be particularly good for modern (esp CR) high speed diesels and a cat/dpf killer.

How about heating oil diesel though?

So what would happen if I went out now and added 50% cooking oil to my Gal and drove as normal ? Come on, someone else try it first !!! and pay the relevant duties of course !

NOT A GOOD IDEA it needs processing first

(100 LITRES OF FINISHED FUEL REQUIRES:

100 LITRES WASTE COOKING OIL (!! FREE !!)

20 LITRES METHANOL (APROX

Oil prices on Wednesday rose to fresh record high of almost $134 a barrel and fears of a looming global shortage pushed the cost of long-term oil prices beyond $140.

Is fuel taxed by % ?

If so, and say that % is 100% (I haven't a clue what % so could anneone confirm the correct figure? All maths below based on 100%)

for each 2p that the suppliers add per litre the taxman gains 2p

The taxes were calculated prior to the huge price increases so the taxman doesn't need the extra 2p

If they change the tax to so many p per litre then the increases would halve.

Do you reckon we could get the taxman 2p off?

Fuel tax consists of two elements.

VAT at 17.5% which obviously increases as the price of oil goes up.

Duty which is a fixed amount and therefore does not increase.

However the government regularly increases duty to keep this as a rough percentage of oil costs.

The recent rapid rise in oil costs means that the overall percentage of tax on fuel has fallen considerably.

Hence Mr Brown will be looking to raise duty asap

He will probably be hung for this......well lets bloody well hope so. :)

This will certainly start forcing manufacturers to take seriously the 'alternative fuel' production car a lot lot quicker. People are going to start shopping for cars on 'cost of running' rather than style and performance, as getting from A to B is going to be only for the wealthy eventually.

I watched the news earlier today and all they kept on about was the price of a barrell of oil had reached an all time high.

Ok fair enough i thought, but why was there no mention of the amount of tax our goverment have put on it.

The yanks pay a fraction of what we pay for their fuel so if its all down to the oil price why are they not paying the same as us or do they get their oil from their own little supply which no body else knows about.

People wouldnt mind the price going up and down a bit with the oil prices if it wasnt loaded with bloody tax because that the reason its so soddin expensive
