Has anyone else experienced this? My Galaxy Y reg Tdi's turbo is intermitent. Fine for a while, then drops out, leaving me crawling along. It suddenly pops back in again, it might be fine one day then another, barely ever any turbo. I changed the MAF sensor last year so I know it's not that.

There IS a sensor coming off a pipe on the other side of the engine (oposite side to the MAF), which when I disconnected, replicated the fault immediately. Does anyone know what this sensor is? Your thought would be extremely helpful, THANKS!

I have a 2000 1.9tdi Zetec and 3 months ago went into limp mode for first time ant slow speed. After a week or so it got worse and everyone said the vanes were sticking. So got it checked - vanes were stuck so i got it reconditioned and fitted for

I had a similar problem with my Audi A4 - it kept going into limp mode.

Switching off the car and restarting it - it began working temporarily.

I had it tested on VAGCOM - no fault found.

I changed the vacuum pipes, MAF sensor, N75 valve - none of these made any difference.

Unfortunately I suspect it was sticky vanes. I never got it fixed because it cost me too much so far.

I got rid of it and got a Galaxy.........unfortunately this has the same Variable Vane Turbo system. So far this hasn't failed YET!

There is a generic problem on all VW, Audi and SEAT - the whole Variable Vane Turbo mechanism + sensors are prone to failure.

Quite probably - they need a good blast once a week or so to keep them clear

did the mechanic say what trouble code 1550 meant as that is a manufacture code not eobd and if it doesnt say what it is on the diagnostic machine that is why he is geussing take it to the dealers for just a diagnostic check and then get him to fix it

regarding these sticky vanes.

all ours does is go to school and tesco all within 1 mile of house, lazy wife syndrome i call it, how far once a week would be enough to hopefully keep the vanes unstuck ?

I also had this problem until I towed my 1500kg caravan. After a few limps Ive had no more trouble definately needs a good blast with some kind of extra weight. Caravan is now for hire...Alot cheaper than going to a garage....
