Jazzman Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Has anyone else experienced this? My Galaxy Y reg Tdi's turbo is intermitent. Fine for a while, then drops out, leaving me crawling along. It suddenly pops back in again, it might be fine one day then another, barely ever any turbo. I changed the MAF sensor last year so I know it's not that. There IS a sensor coming off a pipe on the other side of the engine (oposite side to the MAF), which when I disconnected, replicated the fault immediately. Does anyone know what this sensor is? Your thought would be extremely helpful, THANKS! Quote
Emily's dad Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Could be the N75 Valve. I had similar turbo problems, was diagnosed and fixed under warranty as the N75, pressure converter valve. Quote
Jazzman Posted May 17, 2008 Author Report Posted May 17, 2008 Thanks for that, I'll look into it Quote
silversword Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 I have a 2000 1.9tdi Zetec and 3 months ago went into limp mode for first time ant slow speed. After a week or so it got worse and everyone said the vanes were sticking. So got it checked - vanes were stuck so i got it reconditioned and fitted for Quote
Audiman Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 I had a similar problem with my Audi A4 - it kept going into limp mode.Switching off the car and restarting it - it began working temporarily.I had it tested on VAGCOM - no fault found.I changed the vacuum pipes, MAF sensor, N75 valve - none of these made any difference.Unfortunately I suspect it was sticky vanes. I never got it fixed because it cost me too much so far. I got rid of it and got a Galaxy.........unfortunately this has the same Variable Vane Turbo system. So far this hasn't failed YET! There is a generic problem on all VW, Audi and SEAT - the whole Variable Vane Turbo mechanism + sensors are prone to failure. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Quite probably - they need a good blast once a week or so to keep them clear Quote
syedorf Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 did the mechanic say what trouble code 1550 meant as that is a manufacture code not eobd and if it doesnt say what it is on the diagnostic machine that is why he is geussing take it to the dealers for just a diagnostic check and then get him to fix it Quote
marinabrid Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 regarding these sticky vanes.all ours does is go to school and tesco all within 1 mile of house, lazy wife syndrome i call it, how far once a week would be enough to hopefully keep the vanes unstuck ? Quote
silversword Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 P1550 - i think was just Boost Pressure. Mechanic is convinced its electrical and has a ground earth short showing in the temperature wiring? Quote
swifty Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 I also had this problem until I towed my 1500kg caravan. After a few limps Ive had no more trouble definately needs a good blast with some kind of extra weight. Caravan is now for hire...Alot cheaper than going to a garage.... Regards Swifty Quote
Mirez Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 I had exactly the same issue - took it for a 40 minute drive and drove it like my company car.... its not it since  Quote
