fedupwithjunk Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Seeing as the topic of coolant loss is very popular - the last post on it quickly ran over 1000 views (and I think previous ones did too) I wondered how many of you have tried K-Seal? Its a more modern version of RadWeld and some claim it works perfectly but a few reports (mainly non specific) say steer clear. Facing Quote
big_kev Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 (edited) Most of the reports I have seen on this say it is good as a short term measure. Use it and either look around for another cylinder head...there should be loads of these available from scrappies or ebay . Or use it and sell the car quick...... :angry2: Edited May 12, 2008 by big_kev Quote
Nomolos Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 I would agree with Big Key, fine as a short term holding fix. With a big emphasis on short term, it should allow you time to source the bits you need. Quote
rodders Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 i used it on my 2001 tdi galaxy when i had that even with all the problems that come with them anyway the head went on mine i used 2 bottles did do any good what so ever for me ended up gettin head skimmed cost Quote

fedupwithjunk Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Well I put the K-Seal in and things got better but not perfect. It stopped overheating immediately but the expansion tank is still pressurising from the second the engine starts. K-Seal recommend using more than one bottle on cars with large cooling systems - I have now used 3 bottles and the coolant looks very pretty with all those flecks of copper floating around but I am having to add up to a Litre of water every time I use the car. No sign of a leak anywhere but the exhaust has started to look a little smoky (steam?) on start up. The temp did rise under acceleration up a very long hill in France but cooled quickly when I backed off. So K-seal helped a bit but has not been the wonder cure some people claim. Quote
pdtaylor18 Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 K seal is marvelous stuff if used correctly, there are two types, one which you have to add to the coolant with the existing antifreeze and the other you have to completely drain and flush your system and then add the solution to just a water based system only. Drive around for a while and then empty the system, fill with correct antifreeze/water mixture. If you dont do this then K-seal and antifreeze will go globular and block rads etc. This is just not for old engines, I use it in my RX7 engine as a pre-cautionary measure as they are prone for water seal failures due to corrosion. There is lots of info on this stuff and it can last for a very long time and not just a short term fix if you have had an internaL leak of some sort. Personally if your fault is down to a head gasket then i would endeavour to get that fixed. Quote
garyph77 Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 I own a car spares and accessory shop and sell k-seal by the bucket load.... all feedback ive had on this stuff is extremly positive with one customer claiming that a year after using it to seal a head gasket leak, his car was still going strong... definatly worth trying - highly recommended!!
