chris_cornwall Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 A few months ago the CD changer went, so I replaced the 2007R head unit with another from Halfords so I could play CD's - fitted the Din adaptor cable to allow the Din connections on the back of the new radio to fit to the ones intended for the Ford 2007R Two days ago, the on board amplifier burnt out (wierd smell and dead) so looked all over the site for instructions - couldnt find, so as have worked through it the hard way, thought I would write up for others Step 1 - take out the radio head unit and the little tray underneath - look down for he amp underneath the tray. Take off the big yoke trim under the amp (gives a bit of finger room to feel where the screws are) - it has a couple of cross head screws to losen, then pull Step 2 - free the amp - there is one bolt/screw from underneath towards the back. Involves getting your head down in the drivers footwell to see it. There are two cross headed screws at the front of the amp. From underneath you can see where they come through into captive nuts. The one on the drivers side is not too bad - feel with your fingers for it. Its a cross head screw. Takes a lot of careful turning as there is not a lot of room. The one on the passenger side (also cross head) is more inaccessible still. Pull out forward the cigarette lighter socket as the cables from this get in the way. Step 3 - with the three screws out, the amp is free. A lot of wiggling and pulling and it comes out through the slot the radio was in. There are two connectors going into this - the bus connector which used to go from the amp to the 2007 head unit and another for the power/speakers. The bus cable can be pushed back deep into the depths as no longer needed. Its the other connector you need to take apart. It has a row of 8 wires and a row of 3 wires - dont do what I did and snip through the 3 wires - they are the power and you blow fuse 23 (10A) - tape them back and insulate. The row of 8 wires are the speakers running, in pairs, front left; rear left; front right; rear right Using the adaptor cable (for the Din connector) - strip off the adaptor socket that the 2007R head unit end of the bus cable used to plug into and pair up the correct speakers - it was easy for me as the Halfords replacement radio had all the speakers labeled on the cables) So what you should have now is the 8 speaker cables going straight to one part of the Din adaptor cable and the power side (that used to go to the 2007R going to the other half of the Din adaptor cable Plug the Din adaptor into the new radio and you have now totally bypassed the on board amp Quote
