ALARM MAN Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 Hello folks Anyone tried to fit one of these ? I am going to have a go soon got the kit Only snag is i have a sunroof !!!!!!! Has anyone fit one with roof in I may have to make a bracket to straddle the sunroof Any ideas tips would be appreciated Ta Ian  Quote
Guest nimrod Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 why are you fitting it that far forward? i fitted mine so the the back of the unit is just level with the sun roof opening in the head lining, with the screen folded down it sits just behind the headrests and does not cause to much of a distraction for the driver or front passengeralso near the rear of the sunroof opening is a cross member that you can use to secure the screen to! my unit came with a plate that you mount to the roof above the headlining and then fixed the screen to this, sandwiching the head liningbest bet is to sit in the back and get someone to hold the screen on the roof so you can get an idea of where to mount it so it can be seen by all in the car but not by the driver!it only took me 4/5 hours to fit mine and that was including takeing out the headling, the B post trim/seatbelt mountings in order to run the cables up to the screen and mount the dvd player up under the dash in the passenger footwell!will dig out a photo of the screen once i transfer it from the other hard drive! Guest nimrod Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 pc sorted :D some one hadn't enable the USB ports in the bios :( could load all the software and xp was telling me that it was all there and working ok but couldn't communicate with the hard ware! pc's to complicated and delicate! give me something that I can physically see why its not working and I'm happier :D will sort out the photo's once i'v loaded all the software! :( Quote
Guest nimrod Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Well the good news is I have taken some photo's :D the bad news is that the camera and software for it are not XP compatible :( been through Microsoft's web site and Kodak's but no joy :( looks like it's shopping for a new digital cam tomorrow for me Quote
iainkirk Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 nimrod, if it's a camera with removable cards, get a usb card reader. Under a tenner. Better value than a new camera unless your's is a low resolution one. For good camera prices try www.ebuyer.co.uk DON'T get one from any DSG store (dixons, Currys, Pissyworld) unless you like paying top price! Quote
Guest nimrod Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 got the new camera :D bank balance is lighter but I got what I wanted! I shopped around for one particular model and the prices where the same all over! Jessup's had it on offer :o Quote
ALARM MAN Posted February 21, 2004 Author Report Posted February 21, 2004 Sure no prob send them to Thanks One problem i have noted after looking at the roof tonight is if i screw into bar across this will hinder sunroof cover ? Has this happened with you Ian ? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Now you mention it yes i did have a bit of trouble with the sunshade! it fell out and hit me on the back of the head  its a seperate part and not connected to the head lineing, you can fit the mounting plate so it misses the shade IIRC! it as been quite a while since i did mine but i think i mounted the mounting plate to the nearest cross member in order to get a solid fixing and then used two more plates to secure the screen to the head lineing near to the sunroof opening the only real problem with the shade was the cable to the screen got caught up! but a couple of strategicaly place cable ties sorted that out! when cutting the hole for the cable/s dont make a round one, cut a slot as this can be more easily hidden if you remove the unit when selling the car! Guest Andyjflet Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I have a roof mount dvd screen sist just behind the two front seats and provides extra courtesy lights. The fitter did a supoerb job and its supports itself just on the headlining, works a treat and the dvd unit is in the boot where the jack goes, if you are in the Kettering area and want to have a look then feel free to let me know. Is there a beam you can attach to?Or an existing bracket that Ford fitted just in case you wanted it as an option? Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Quote

NikpV Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 also near the rear of the sunroof opening is a cross member that you can use to secure the screen to! my unit came with a plate that you mount to the roof above the headlining and then fixed the screen to this, sandwiching the head lining Cross member may only be there if sunroof is ..... Guest BagPuss Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Ahhh, that might be handy as mine has! Anyone bought the DVD Player / Monitors from Ebay?If so are they any good? Quote
mike99 Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I've got one from ebay, 8" roof mount screen and in dash dvd player. I don't have a sunroof I took down the roof lining and used very strong adhesive to stick wood the the roof and then replaced the roof lining and screwed the screen to it. Its been there 6 weeks now with no problems.I'll try and get some pics sorted. Quote
