fedupwithjunk Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Can anyone reccomend Vag Com type diag kit that works on a 51 Galaxy 1.9 tdi Ebay have things that are as cheap as Quote
Turvey Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I've just ordered one like THIS on the recomendation of someone on here. Will let you know I get on with it when it arrives. :( Quote
big_kev Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Yep that will work fine. Remember to clear all existing fault codes the first time you use it as some could have been there for a while....and may be misleading. Then take notice of any new ones that come up. p.s. Do not play with the airbags ! Quote
Turvey Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Big Kev Whats your views on these leads regarding the turbo trip out fault? turk90210 on another thread has said For reference the engine management light is the glow plug light, if this isn't on then most generic obd readers are a waste of time as they wont link into the system whilst I have no reason at all to doubt him, I have not seen this being mentioned on here before :) ATB From Not so big Kev :( Quote
turk90210 Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 turvey, I think you miss understand me, most generic obd readers wont link into a cars diagnostics unless the warning light is on, what you have ordered off flea bay works with version 409 of VAG.Com which was written for vw cars and as your car is vag based it will work fine so you havn't really wasted your moneyI have a similar set up and a Ford Galaxy and I can link into all of my car without any problems. Infact this was the only way I could find out about my overboost problem as the generic obd I use at work said there was no faultIf you download version 409 off the ross tech web site you can try it first to make sure it works and you can link in ok, the only down side is when the software is unregistered you wont have full functuality of the software. If it links in ok you can then register it and have a fully functioning diagnostics on your carI got drivers with my lead which emulate a serial port even though it is a usb lead so make sure you down load the serial and usb versions of vag.com and try them both Quote
Turvey Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Cheers for that turk ;) can I call you turk? ;) You've cleared up one question as to what version I would have to download. And no doubt I will have a few more before I'm done  :) Quote
big_kev Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 I totally agree with turks.. last comments about Vag-com....it seems the best one to use. Quote
Turvey Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Well. got my lead today complete with 409 software and usb drivers on a disc. Borrowed mum-in-laws laptop, loaded software and drivers, very simple to do---even I managed it :D The not-so-good news is the codes I got of it. 17664/P1256 - Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit (G62): Open / Short to B+ 17965/P1557/005463 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation :2: :2:  17552 Apparantly this needs the full version to de-code. Couldn't find it on ross-tech wiki. Any clues anyone? Quote
big_kev Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 17552 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Open or Short to Ground Quote

Turvey Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 Perhaps some of these are old faults? Clear all codes, take it for a drive and see what codes come back. I took a note of the codes that came up when I first switched it on and then I reset them................and posted them, forgetting they were cleared :) so the "only" current code is 17965 :angry2: One amusing side effect of the whole exercise was, I reset the aux heating fault. I got a phonecall from my wife a couple of days later saying the car was making a funny sound and there was lots of smoke coming from the back!!! ;) So I got a lift down to the car and started it up expecting a big broken turbo sound and heard nothing. After walking round the car a couple of times and lifting the bonnet I walked to the back of the car to see great plumes of grey smoke coming from underneath just in front of the back wheel. It then slowly dawned on me it was the heater trying to start :D Quote
sasquartch Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Looking to get vag.com to diagnose my aux heater so looking for a suitable lead. I'm assuming I can download vag.com from ross-tech free ? Where can I get a good lead that will work - I want the full functionality of vag.com ? I'm assuming that the vag.com software only has limited functionality unless I buy the full version - what do I get / not get with the free version ?? Advice welcome. Thanks Quote

Ebay has loads for around a tenner eg http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/409-1-KKL-VAG-COM-US...=item45f067aa7b Will this cable be OK or should I look elsewhere ? Thanks Quote
big_kev Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Any of the cables that claim to work with either an Alhambra, Sharan or Galaxy should be fine. Quote
swifty Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Just got my diag lead and been on the ross-tech site but cant work out wot I need to download. Can anyone steer me in the right direction please. Swifty.... Quote
swifty Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Ive seen the downloads but they dont seem to support win vista.. Quote
Jayton Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 If you are having a problem with Vista, install Virtual Box and install XP inside Virtual Box, it's really easy. It's meant to be able to pass on USB devices to the Virtual PC. HTH Jay Quote
big_kev Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Ive seen the downloads but they dont seem to support win vista.. The xp ones work fine in vista. ( versions 311 or 409 ) You may need to run them in Admin mode. Nearly all the Vista problems are USB/Serial port related. Quote
swifty Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Hi all I have been out this morning and managed to get the software to work in forced dumb mode. Cleared the flame out faultand cant believe how quickly the car warmed up. Many thanks to all of you that gave me advise and sticking with me. Im not the greatest person with pc's at the best of times. Great forum great people.... Swifty.. Quote
big_kev Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Glad you got it sorted. Worth doing a scan on the other modules to see if there are any other faults present. Quote
swifty Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 The only other fault that came up was for the brake s pedal switch, thats my next job, wd40 doesnt seem to work on it anymore.. Swifty Quote
