unless youve got a swimming pool under your passenger seat, then id say the wires have snapped in the door, look in the faqs in the technical section its all there.

Hi all membrs I have a problem similar to this on a mk1 Galaxy. After not driving it for a few weeks when i went to start it it would not start so I gave it a jump start. Whilst in the car I noticed a big puddle of water in the front passenger side which I tried to absorb. When I tried the lock, only the drivers door would open and lock. i think the water problem was the rear washer pipe as it has rained since and no water has collated, and my washer bottle appears to be empty, but the central locking has not come back and all the doors apart from the drivers door remain locked. Does anyone have any suggestions which would be truly appreciated?

Have you checked the central locking relay and fuses.

Also the the drivers door physically lock.

I have just checked the relay under the passenger seat and noticed that one wire had broken off and the relay unit was damaged. I have put on a new relay but still no joy. Is there just one relay for the central locking ( under passenger seat), or are there other places that i need to check. Please advise.......... a very frustrated Galaxy owner.

Hi everybody. I've just bought this 1996 Galaxy, an like most of the galaxy's the central locking doesn't work. I have cheked the box under the passenger seat, and it was a total mess there, so i have ordered another one, with the relee included. I've cleaned all electric conections, installed the new central locking box, and still no effect. The thing is, that, when i connect the plugs in the box, there is a click sound inside, so i presume that the box recives power. Does anyone have any ideea if there is any other fuse or relee for the central locking that i should look for? Thanks

Hi I Have a similar problem but i have a 1999 model where the central locking unit is behind the drivers side facia, so no footwell water problems.

I lock the drivers door and have the following results

Drivers door Locks

Fuel Filler flap locks

tailgate locks

passenger door stays unlocked

two rear doors stay unlocked.

unlocking drivers door opens the three locked doors but not the other three if been locked by manually pushing handle in.

using passenger side to lock car locks front passenger and intermitantly locks driver door but no other locks

unlocking passenger door unlocks front passenger door only.

using tailgate has same result as drivers door.

Can anyone help as this is driving me crazy

Thanks

sounds like wiring in door-pillar rubber boots - either wires broken inside insulation or insulation cracked and wires shorting ..... sometimes you can change the symptoms by wiggling the rubber boots have a look at item 31 & 43 in the faq here

Hi Thanks for that the faq section is very detailed will give this a try tonight, do you have a suggetsion as to which door to do first, i was thinking the front passenger door as this one was failed

possible but I would go back to the wiring first - given the numbers of folks that post here that they checked the wires once and found more when they went back again

I had a issue with the central locking. Some doors won't lock, sometimes failed totally etc etc etc and more etc. Just a bunch of weird problems.

Box under the seat was okay. I took apart the drivers door wiring loom & rubber boot - noticed someone had previously done a repair job on the wiring - wire detached.

I soldered the wire and used shrink tubing bought from Maplins.

Works like a dream now.

Sometimes the problem looks complicated - Wiring loom fault on these Galaxy's are a very common fault.

ok sound`s daft idea but have you checked the door pin switch.

Mine broke when in garage for repair and it too did waht you sayed it did then I noticed that the pin was broke when I repaired it and all started working.

Just a thought.

Kind regards

I haved a galaxy mk1 this problem is what i think is a design flaw and ford should be responsable for it. but anyways the unit under the passanger seat is for controll of door and boot locking as well as alarm but alarm is not on every model so check the units model number to see if it's alarmed. 1 with out alarm is

Hi, I had a very similar problem on my galaxy, the locking system started acting up and then two days later it packed up altogether, the red light didn't flash anymore and basically the whole locking system died. I spent two days searching for the fault, testing and checking wires, and everything was working fine when stripped, but when together it didn't want to know. Turns out there was a problem with the live feed to the door switches, looking at the diagram it's a red and white wire. After the fuse box it routes up and under the dash, across to the passenger side and then there is a soldered joint, where the wire splits to supply the doors. On my car this joint had partially failed, enough to bugger up the system but not enough to show when testing with a multimeter. I was quite happy that my testing wasn't in question, it took a ford technician 2 days to find it! He soldered in a new live feed to the drivers door for me from the fuse box (no. 19) and it works as it should now from that door, just need to connect new feeds myself asap. Please check this on your car before putting in for a diagnostic, it could save a couple of hundred quid. Even the technician couldn't find the joint, he said it may involve removing the dash or carpet on passenger side, which would have cost mega bucks. Hope this is of help.

another strange one for no reason at all the key in the drivers door does not operate any of the locks but all the windows Will come down

THEN the remote butons on key will open all doors when siting in car windows wind down but will not go up again but with key in ignition with ignition on and a key in the ldrivers door lock turned to the unlock position windows will wind up again get out of car lock car with remote Key all doors lock apart from drivers door it does click a few times as if it is trying to

THEN all doors lock and unlock with remote key but manual key locking still does not work seems as if it is not catching a mechanical link if there still is such a simple thing left in these cars today

do i need to scrap this car ????? The ford dealer ship seams to lack any expierience expertese or knowledge that comes with mature and enthusiastic. they just seem to employ youths that are only capable of running up a lardge bill for you with no positive out come

check for fraid wires in the door(rubber boot/s)sounds like an electrical problem where the wires are shorting out.

as i dont know what mk you have it could also be the main box under the passenger seat sitting in water???
