Seatdriver Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Now this new Galaxy of mine is causing the family rather a lot of grief, sadly the car isn't a patch on my old 03 Sharan. Anyway whilst driving 250miles of motorway the car began to shudder (feels like going over a cattle grid)on inclines (5th gear, 72mph,2100rpm). Please note the figures (mine is a five speed box, 1.8tdci LX).This is the giveaway sign that the dual mass flywheel has failed or is failing. My car is beyond the recall cutoff being a 56 plate BUT it still had the recalled flywheel fitted! Anyway 1 new flywheel+bits and hey presto shudder gone. On a note if anyone hears a rumble from the gearbox when the engine is WARM and the clutch pedal is halfway up or down, get it checked as this was another unaccountable noise which dissappeared once the flywheel+clutch+release bearing was changed. Seatdriver Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 Oh and on a point to note the old clutch was noted to be approx 1/3 worn out when visually inspected this after only 10,000 miles, not good eh! Quote
Smilge Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 It's worth mentioning also that it's not just Ford who are having problems with DMF failures. Quote
GaryM Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 How much was that to get sorted? I'm begining to convince myself that I have the starts of this problem. The clutch pedal halfway down thing I have noticed. The other is if you turn the engine off normally it rattles to a halt like a truck. Dip the clutch and it is nice and quite. Just spent yesterday with the thing rattling and clanking in low revs around town. You could feel it all in the back of the clutch pedal. Thing is fine now. Why are we all paying to be the developers of DMF technology? Do you have any details of the tech bulitens? Quote
GaryM Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Update... My flywheel failed! Very poor service trying to get the problem sorted but one it was reconised went in, waited for parts as usual, flywheel replaced. Luckily it was under warrenty but as a known issue I pitty any secondhand purchasers that have to pay for this fix out of warrenty for a ford known fault. Quote
Seatdriver Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 Exactly why I owned my Galaxy for the shortest time of owning a car ever 40 days, 40 nights. Worst car ever and I fully agree with the sentiment woe to whoever purchases a second hand GALAXY mk3. They are in for an empty bank balance and plenty of hours clocked up in the dealership. This car has the makings of the Ulysse,C8 people carrier, beutiful, practical, spacious, cutting edge BUT completely unreliable, troublesome and eventually impossible to get shut of. As for my Galaxy replacement, 06 130bp Alhambra Stylance, faultless drive for the past 6 months, bliss. Quote
Tipex Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Hi, can anyone give me any details of the recall for the DMF? I have an 07 Galaxy 1.8tdci (125) LX and it requires a new DMF after having covered only 40k miles. I suspect it is a common fault as a couple of colleagues with the same car have had the same problem. Ford are refusing to replace the DMF under warranty, as they say the alloy wheels I have fitted have made the DMF fail. I should point out that, the car came with steel wheels, but the alloys fitted are the Ford option 18" 'Y' spoke alloys, available as an optional extra from Ford themselves. The car is also a 'Ford Direct' vehicle, I've owned it nearly a year so it's only half way through it's 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. I have to say I'm seriously disappointed with this car, it has so many faults its ridiculous, and it's a pig to drive, especially if you dare to turn the A/C on. Any advice gratefully received. Quote
big_kev Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) Hi, can anyone give me any details of the recall for the DMF? I thought this recall was for MK2's below. Click me Edited August 12, 2009 by big_kev Quote
tim-spam Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Most manufacturers have had problems with DMF's when they first started to be used, but this issue was sorted out years ago by most manufacturers - for Ford (or should I say Peugeot) to be still experiencing these problems is incredible. Neily Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 On a note if anyone hears a rumble from the gearbox when the engine is WARM and the clutch pedal is halfway up or down, get it checked as this was another unaccountable noise which dissappeared once the flywheel+clutch+release bearing was changed. Well then. The DMF on mine's on it's way out after 30,000 miles. Anyone know how much I can expect to cough? Or is it better to get rid of the car now and let the p/x dealer fork out (I know that's naughty but hey-ho, we've all been caught in one way or another). Quote
neilster Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I purchaced a 58 1.8 in november (6500 miles on the clock) and had the same symptoms happen a few weeks ago (7000 miles on the clock) Had DMF replaced under warranty and its OK now.. When I went to collect the car after the repair the mechanic also said the clutch has been replaced last may (dont sound to good to me) Quote
