Conor Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Folks, My Galaxy, which is now 1 and 1/2 years old and which I bought at 8 months old, has just had some sort of major fit. It will not start (it won't even turn over) and I am getting information messages regarding power steering malfunction and engine malfunction. I don't believe the battery is flat as there are still lights (although dim) and I did hook it up to my own car to make sure. There were also some very strange noises coming from the middle area of the dash. My suspicion is that there is an engine managment system or electrics problem. I contacted the dealer I bought the car from who said that it sounded like a programming problem and that as the car is only 1.5 years old it would be covered by warranty. The issue is however that the dealer wants to charge me for recovering the vehicle which I take great exception to, particularly if it is a problem which is covered by the warranty. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! ;) Quote
Smilge Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Conor ...... sounds to me that the battery is duff ..... 1st thing to do is to try and find someone with some jump leads to see if that will start it. Remember +ve lead first, then negative to a metal part at least 0.5m away from the battery. Quote
Conor Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 Bleeno, Thanks but I did hook it up to my own car with jump leads but nothing...... I honestly believe the CPU has gone...curses. Anyone else got any ideas. Should my local Ford dealer be responsible for recovering my vehicle? Thanks Quote
mumof4 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 not unless its covered in the warrenty i would of thought, can you get the car towed there by a mate? Quote
searcher Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Are you not in a breakdown service? If not it would be cheaper to join one than pay for a recovery.Or failing that ask a mate who has breakdown cover to have the car recovered. that way they will fetch it from YOUR home address and there will be no need for the homestart option. Conor Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 The recovery problem may be sorted...I threatened to call Ford Head office to complain and my local dealer very quickly agreed to come out to have a look at it. Now I just have to find out what the problem with the car is. Thanks guys. Quote
Johnny B Goode Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I recently had the power steering fail on mine several times !After a lot of messing about I sent the dealer a letter quoting the sale of goods act.. . . . which woke them up pretty sharpish !As it turns out there was nothing wrong with the steering at all , it was a software problem shutting it down , they`ll probably programme the latest update into it like they did with mine. . . . Good luck John Quote
big_kev Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 still sounds like a flat battery to me ....do your jump leads get hot ? Could be faulty ignition relay / starter relay or jammed starter motor. Doubt that its electronic...see if you can put a feed direct to starter relay....if you can get at it ! Quote
