Hi there.

I'm currently in the process of changing to a Galaxy. Question - does anyone tow with a Galaxy which doesn't have self levelling suspension. If so, does it drop a lot, or is it okay.

Also - does the detachable towball supplied by Ford fit the Al-ko hitches ?

Cheers

I had the Ghia and that didn't have self levelling suspension ....... didn't drop that much either but made sure the nose weight of 80Kg was never exceeded. Don't know about the towball as I had a Witter bar fitted.

I would have thought the detachable tow bar should fit the Alko hitch.

I know you should use the Alko towball with the slightly longer neck but i have used a standard towball with my Alko and had no problems

Som detachable towballs are a bit lik a swan neck type so they should fit ok.

Self levelling suspension is not something required on the Galaxy I and II when towing.

The standard suspension setup copes better than other cars I have used for towing in the past, including my Rover Sterling which had self levellers as standard.

This is just to give a positive reinforcement to previous posts.

Our old vectra estate had s/levelling, and it did make a difference to the ride height of the back end whilst towing.

Our gal tows fine without s/levelling, with no noticeable drop with the van on the back.

I tow with a detachable tow bar with an alko hitch no problems wot so ever.As mentioned above the detachable is longer then a standard tow bar and is fine.
