koro Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Hello :o VW (2000) Sharan 1.9tdi, new face lift model I am trying to get a 12v supply for my drop down LCD monitor, I am going to feed the power through a dashboard switch, got from Halfords. I originally wanted to take the power feed from behind the front cig-lighter. On inspection that dosn't look that easy to get at... would anyone know on how to get to the rear of cig-lighter or is it easier to go through the bulkhead, direct to the battery? anyone know of where to look so as to feed the cable through? :o Hoping you guys can help Koro Quote
charles Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 through the bulkhead is a lot of work, also you need extra linefuse and you have to make connections to the battery. If you remove the radio and tray you should get access to the wires from the cigarette lighter. Put two wire clamps (Halfords) on these wires. Quote
Guest Andy Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 DON'T USE SH***Y SCOTCH LOCKS somebody has earnt a lot of money out of inventing something so CRAP.A will it or won't it connection....There is a grommit on the baulk head passenger side if you need one.... :o :o :o :o Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 Don't slate scotchloks - they aren't that bad. Not long after they became popular, one of the motoring mags (since deceased) did a test on different wiring joints, and the scotchloks came out pretty well at the top of the list. I've used them before for fitting radios, boot lights etc and rear fog lamps on older vehicles and never had a problem. Don't think I'd use them in high-power applications though. Quote
Guest Andy Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 proper job solder it ,especially when some auto electricians in my area charge Quote
ALARM MAN Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 Yep Solder works for me ! Ian Quote
koro Posted February 19, 2004 Author Report Posted February 19, 2004 Sorry for not replying earlier, many thanks for your replies. This will probably sound stupid, but how the hell does the radio come out? It dosn,t have a removable facia and has none of those four hole thingy-mugingy to slide the radio out..if you know what I mean. If I can get the radio out hopefully as mentioned by Charles I can get to the wires to the cig lighter, otherwise I shall look for the gromit as Andy says. :( Quote
