mickyt Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 hello i have a 1995 1998cc dohc petrol gal with 100,000 miles on the clockthe car was running great up until a couple of days ago when i noticed that there was a slight hesitation when setting off i didnt think much of it but the problem started to worsen as the days went by the hesitation grew worse and worse until it felt like the whole car was going to fall apart with the vibrations so i left it where it was till the next day and when i returned for it it started straight away the all hell was let loose the car felt like it was about to explode as thevibrations coming from the engine nearly tore it apart i noticed that the engine was barely ticking over and was hovering around 500 rpm and then the engine cut out.i tried to restart it but there was nothing i put some new spark plugs in and hey presto started straight away but i noticed the fog that was pouring from the exhaust not a little but bloody loads of white smoke and the hesitation on accelaration is still there and there is also a missfirecoolant level is fine oil is ok not milky or anything and cant think of any answers please helpmick Quote
mickyt Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 not sure is there any way to tell if the cat has gone thanksmick Quote
sepulchrave Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 This is really not the Cat. Sounds like serious mechanical malfunction, detached or holed piston crown, cracked head casting, split liner or something equally catastrophic. I suggest you remove the head whereupon the problem should reveal itself to you. Quote
Smilge Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Tend to agree with sepulchrave on this one ........ could also be the head gasket and one or more of the pots are filling with water and the engine is hydraulicking. Try not to run the engine anymore until you or a mate have confirmed the problem. Quote
