hi all looking for some expert advice. got a galaxy 1.9 pd 2001 model done 211000 miles bought it at a bargin price and started to restore it to its former glory. so far replaced timming belt+tentioner belt had broken before i bought it. cyl head off and replaced all 8 valves+stem seals+new hydralic tappets all four injectors o/halled. but on cold start or after siting all day exhaust is quite smokey and the fumes would make your eyes water but as it heats up it becomes ok. could it be e.g.r or do you think eng wear any sujestions would be greatful.my money is running out fast.also disconected aux heater definatly comeing from eng exhaust Edited by bigjohnboy

You didn't replace the valve guides though (not on your list above), so the head is still very second hand.

 

Bent valve stems from timing belt failure sometimes damage their guides, although at 210k they'd be very worn anyway.

 

I think this may be your problem.

Partial vacuum in a cylinder while the engine is stopped gradually draws oil past the stem seal and down the valve guide where it slowly pools in that cylinder before being burnt off when you start it.

 

It's not really a serious problem, but on some turbo engines it can pressurise the crankcase while running if the breather isn't up to much.
