MartinB Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 I've posted about this before and looked through the search answers. But i have some specific questions. So far, we've checked the Pipe...which is new and fitted perfectly. The sensors appear to be working fine in the steering column, brake and clutch pedal. As far as garage can tell the control unit is working fine and the pump "looks" ok. Is there any way to test the individual parts, Control Unit & Pump? To find out what is stopping the whole system from working. The only issue anyone has managed to find so far, is the lack of a light on the dash to indicate that it is working or not...and the fact that it isn't working... Otherwise everything is exactly as its been. What i would like is approx charges. How much would a Brand new part be, what parts are needed to make up the whole, is it worth trusting a breaker for parts? Would a Seat Dealer be able to make any more sence of the system than any other garage? And roughly what sort of price would the dealer charge? Theres no point calling as they always say the same thing "Bring the car and let us have a look and..." and i usually turn up with a baseball bat and an expression. The garages i use have never failed in quality before, so i am hoping it is just a lack of knowledge of the cruise control system which is our main hurdle. Fuel prices have prompted me to look at this issue more seriously, as i am paying Quote
NikpV Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 seem to recall that someone with a 2.3 petrol ford found that water had got into the 'pump' thing behind the neaside headlamp - it had rusted up. Was either rebuilt/regreased or replaced cant remember which It would probably help if you put you car detail in your sig or profile Quote
NikpV Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 have you checked this thread some useful stuff posted by ridway a couple of post further down btw looks like the pump thing was replaced according to daveM Quote
MartinB Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 Yes, i've seen that thread, was wondering if anyone knows a link for a breakdown of the pump to clean/reassemble it? I don't really want to get a manual for 1 pump for a car i might not keep. heh. I think the pump is most likely the culprit. Quote
mikej Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 (edited) I posted on this sometime ago 2001 2.3 petrol , i removed pump and found it full of water and rusted to hell and back but after stripping it and soaking in wd40 it came back to life and lasted a good few months . However the cruise has gone again so i fitted a new pump and now it don't bloody work at all ! even though pump works fine on bench etc , i have no light on dash either and can hear a relay or something clicking under dash when selected but no cruise light and no bloody cruise . My dash has been partly stripped for months now in an attempt to locate the cc module but i have know way of identifying it , if you fix yours tell me how and i will gladly be your slave for a week lol..........miketo recap : hose is fine pump is fine stalk works and relay clicks in on selection STILL NO CRUISE Edited April 27, 2008 by mikej Quote
clockie Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 My Zemco Cruise Control works fine. Goodness knows how old it is. Have also forgotten how many cars its been fitted to. 3 or 4 Ford Serria's, Volvo's four different models. The Galaxy is the first front wheel drive car its been on. It is the electric cruise control control, not the vaccum type. My very first Zemco Cruise control was vaccum, had trouble with the diaphram in the vacuum activator. By the way Zemco went out of business some years ago. The only thing I find that you have to be careful, in watching your speed downhill on my automatic Galaxy, is that with no engine braking, the speed will rise - so beware of speed cameras which tend to be fitted on downhill sections of roads Clockie. long Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 I have a 2.3 auto with cruise control which also isnt working seems to be a common prob. Have you sorted yours yet and any tips Quote
Galaxy_Ghia_X Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I also have the same problem with my 99' 2.3 Galaxy, question is where is the pump and the pipes associated so that I can at least check them? Quote
NikpV Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 behind front indicator near-side IIRC - check the faq Quote
Mauser Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Ditto with crusie control on a 2.3, mine was fine pipe persihed once which I repaired, went again but even with new pipe it still won't engage. Have removed pump and it works fine when i supply 12volts to the motor, when driving @ more than 30 and I push the stick to "Set" then the relay clicks in then drops straight out again, don't know if it is supposed to do this or not, would say speed sensor is OK as doesn't click @ lower speeds. Which brake pedal switch controls the vacuum line ?, mines an auto so might be different to the manual ones.Bit baffled why it does nothing, normally as long as it's on and when I press the end of the stick in it works fine, could do with it working soon as going to London and would be handy, there is a solonoid / relay device within the pump body which either holds the vaccum or drops it when energised, cannot test which way without driving @ 30 and looking under the bonnet :D.Any idea guys ?.
