singh Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Hi all, I'm on the lookout for a Galaxy and for my budget, the the mileages vary between 50,000 and 70,000 and many of the Galaxy's haven't had the cambelt change. This is the thing that is concerning me, of course I can haggle the price down a bit due to the service having to be done but I'm not sure as to when the cambelt has to be changed. Is it 60,000? I'm currently interested in one Galaxy which is Full Ford Service History but once again, the cambelt hasn't been changed. I can tell you the mileage intervals now and they are as follows: 10,419 21,126 31,243 40,499 53,869 The car is now on about 67,800 miles and I'm still a little concerned about why the cambelt hasn't been changed. The seller is a trader by the way. Another question!...I know the prices charged by each dealership vary a lot, but what sort've price do they charge for the cambelt change and a service? Any help would be appreciated Ricky Singh. Quote
gregers Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 then in my opinion it HASNT GOT FULL SERVICE HISTORY,do a search on here for approx price garages charge and ring a few up,you havnt told us what the details of the car are?but iirc there was a change over around the early part of 2003 when they changed the interval of the cam belt change from 40,000 to 60,000 miles and with the details you have given if it needed changing at 40k THEN ITS WAY OVER DUE but if its 60k then negotiate the cost in the deal.hth. singh Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 I understand what you mean, I've rang one of the dealers up and they've said 60k to me, I'm just concerned as to why it hasn't been changed for several thousands of miles. All the Galaxy's I've been looking at all are around the sort've mileage where the cambelt needs changing, its quite frustrating. Quote
searcher Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I had the belt changed on mine about four months ago and was charged Quote
gregers Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 just a thought is all the service history from 1 garage?if not it might be worth ringing the garages up that have done the servicing and asking them if they have done it. Quote
dpm Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Morning all. I am puzzled on this, and have been for some time. My dealer is adamant that the Galaxy I have does not have a timing belt. They are definitive in claiming it has a chain 2003 1.9TDI 115PS Zetec I have checkede this with them carefully as the mileage at which I would expect to change the belt has long since past. Current miles 87K. Is he wrong? Are there certain versions which have a chain?? Comments much appreciated. D Quote
AndyBWales Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Not seen any evidence of a chain before ... my 2001 1.9TDI Zetec definately has a belt ..... I know because I fitted it ... think they have it wrong Quote
insider Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Only the petrol engines have chains (2.0, 2.3 and 2.8), the diesels all have belts.Incidentally, we've all assumed that singh was looking for a diesel? If not, then there wouldn't and shouldn't be evidence of a timing belt change in the service history! Quote
singh Posted April 12, 2008 Author Report Posted April 12, 2008 Arghh!!..I'm so annoyed! Looking for a Galaxy between 7 and 8 thousand pounds and they are getting sold so quickly!! Its so hard finding the right one  Quote
