Well after just 2 months of owning a new MkIII Galaxy I am having to sell it.

This is due to the max towing weight being 1400kg.... A strange figure that does not correlate with other Galaxy and SMax models (but that's another topic).

I need a car that will tow 1500Kg, so a good max towing figure, at least 100kg nose weight and a good heavy kerb weight (at least 1800kg), seat all my family (so 7 seats is best), and a good economy; diesel, within budget (hoping to get 14K for the Galaxy)

Is it possible? does it exist?

So what shoudl I buy.

A 2.0 Galaxy MkIII - my worry is that it only has a 80Kg noseweight which can be exceeeded we all know but not ideal.

A MKII Galaxy - Anybody know the towing spec for these. Are they econimcal. I had a MkI galaxy, Petrol and it was awful economy.

A Sangyong Rexton - seems pretty uneconomical from teh figures

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks

I dont know much about the the new shape Gal but why can you only tow 1400KG.

I thought it was able to row more than that.

Ive towed with a Mk 2 Gal and an Alhambra both in 115BHP form and they are both great at towing a 1500KG twin axle caravan.

Ill swap your Gal for my Alhambra

Yes, I am very frustrated as I thought I had checked all thsi before I bought it. But the MkIII 1.8D variant has a manufacturers limit set at 1400 whereas the 2.0 is 1700.

The reason I double checked all this recently is becuase I have had real trouble with snaking.

What's the nose weight on the MKII Gal and the Alhambra. Do you know?

Well the nose weight limit on mine was 75Kg but checking everytime I hitched up it was always around 50Kg. Must admit though I had to take the spare wheel out of the gas box when towing to give me less hitch weight. Sounds to me as though you had too much weight to the rear of the van axle.

Well to be honest i never checked the nose weight.

Ok thats not the correct way of doing things but with a bit of common sense whilst loading the van ive never(touch wood) had a problem.

Ive got a nice long level driveway and i used to park it there to see how level the van was.

One thing i always double checked was where in the van the wife put her makeup bag as anywhere other than over the axle would cause problems

Yes, it does sound like a weight at the rear problem but the majority of the weight was at the front. (exactly the same as I had it with my terracan, which never even twitched). The nose weight is about 90Kg and I wondered if it was too heavy and shifted some stuff into the car to reduce it but it was still snaking. I am borderline as to whether I was over the maximum tow weight (1400kg). So I am (just out of interest) going to try it tomorrow with nothing in it (so it will be about 1250Kg). And see if it is any better. If it is then I may decide to get another MKIII but the 2.0 version. I can re-use my towbar then too.
