Galaxy23 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I replaced the front and rear discs/pads on my Galaxy in Oct,07 and have done maybe 3 k on them since.I purchased them off e-bay for approx Quote
lazyb5 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 hello did anybody check your track rod ends both outboard and inboard? also wheelbearings? other than that i think you`ve checked most things. Quote
Galaxy23 Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 Many thanks for your reply.I will check with the mechanic but I am 99.9 % sure that he checked everything.I suspect that maybe they were inferior discs I bought off e-bay,but that wouldn't account for the Unipart ones being the same ????????????????????? searcher Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 It seems very unlucky for both sets to be warped but i suppose its possible.Trying a good quality set like Mintex may sort out the problem but it seems an expensive way of finding out but like you said everything else seems ok. Quote
Ginettamad Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Could it be the ABS system? My Gal judders a bit too but I'll live with it til I change the discs. Rust on the hubs under where the disc sits on the hub can also be enough to cause this and worth checking? Pads check?Drive at 85MPH? What about normal driving speeds and doing a few emergency stops to bed them in? Wouldnt waste money or more brakes just yet.H Quote
Galaxy23 Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks.I have just spoken to my local mechanic. He has advised me to leave it until the symptoms get worse. He thinks it could be the hub causing the problem, but says this is very unusual for the hub to cause a fault. If the hub was warped would I not get a judder at all times and a shake in the steering without braking as if the wheel balance was out ?? Dodger Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I can't claim to be an expert but if it were me I think I'd go to a tyre fitters and get the front wheels re-balanced before doing anything else. Quote
Galaxy23 Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks.I have already had this done a few days ago. They were ok. Quote
Galaxy23 Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 I have just ordered a set of Mintex discs/pads and am taking a gamble. The seller who sold me the discs/pads back in October is no longer a registered user on e-bay.I woinder why !!!!I will let you know if this works. Quote
Horatio Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 When the steering shudders during braking it means the disks are warped. This can happen either because of extreme heat damaging the disks, faulty manufacture - common on cheap brake disks, and even incorrect/uneven torque settings when fitting wheels. It happened to me with my old Mondeo. Problem was solved by buying decent aftermarket items. Quote
