decappo Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 Hi nimrod, Go to VW handler and ask for part number: 7M3 881 087 seat mounting cover It should point them in the right direction. Cost?? Quote
sanjsanj Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 (edited) Hi all I have converted mine to a 7 seater. You need to buy (of course the seat) four metal brackets and eight plastic things like the ones shown in earlier posts in the thread. The threaded holes are already under the carpet . Then you need to remove the carpet ,cut the equivalent holes and bolt the new seat mountings in place. Oh I forgot...The seat brackets are easy to remove, you just have to find some suitable plastic covers for the holes in the upholstery, and a torx25 bit with a long 3/8"extension Hope this is not confusing, see my English is not perfect !!Hi there. How much was the seat? was it new or second hand? I was once looking to buy a seat from the dealer and he quoted me Edited April 23, 2007 by sanjsanj Quote
mumble_bee Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 on my 2.3 Ghia (7 st) the logbook doesnt say anything at "S.1 Number of seats including driver"If my 6 seat Ghia X is any different, I will let you know.. although I doubt it. Quote
familyman Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Mine's a six seater -no mention of seating capacity on the V5 -might be worth telling the insurance company though ,you know what they're like ,any excuse not to pay out ! Quote
strouf Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 (edited) But wouldn't you need to inform your insurance and DVLA that your car is now a 7 Seater and no longer a 6 ?? Hello again, my car is registered as a seven seater, though they gave me only six  I could probably add a dozen more seats and no goverment or insurance would care !!! The middle seat came free of charge (a friend who's a breaker) from a 2000 Sharan and used the lap belt. Far better quality fabric than my 2004 Ghia.... Some weeks ago, I found the time and fitted the roof mount seat belt Edited May 14, 2007 by strouf Quote
Assa Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 But wouldn't you need to inform your insurance and DVLA that your car is now a 7 Seater and no longer a 6 ?? Hello again, my car is registered as a seven seater, though they gave me only six  I could probably add a dozen more seats and no goverment or insurance would care !!! The middle seat came free of charge (a friend who's a breaker) from a 2000 Sharan and used the lap belt. Far better quality fabric than my 2004 Ghia.... Some weeks ago, I found the time and fitted the roof mount seat belt Hi Strouf, How easy was it to fit the roof mounted seat belt for the middle seat? I asked my local Fraud dealer about getting one installed and they told me that it couldn't be done?! I could realy do with this so my daughter's car seat can go there. Thanks, Assa Quote
strouf Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 (edited) Hello again ! I'm sorry it took so long to reply, haven't been on this forum for quite some time. Adding the roof mount seat belt is easy enough, provided that you have the parts needed ! You need the seat belt of course, and two metal guides that secure the belt in place under the headlining. Most probably the metal plate that the whole system is placed on, will be missing (my car did not have it). I can find the part numbers if necessary...So you need to take the headlining off, weld the supporting bracket in place (best on a body repair shop, a two minute job), bolt the parts in place. Then half reinstall the headlining, mark and cut a hole where the seat belt will be hanging (tricky), and there you go !!! Also note that if the middle extra seat does not come from a MK2, you will need to add a second "thing"(the part that the belt locks in) to it's right, which is DIFFERENT than all the others. I hope my description will not disappoint you , the job is not difficult , but you need to buy the parts (I always ask SEAT dealers, they are more helpful) and have the time. strouf Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 I asked my local Fraud dealer about getting one installed and they told me that it couldn't be done?! I would really be surprised if they said they could do it !!! Whenever i HAVE to go to them (car still covered by warranty) , they act like it's not the car they sold me, but a CATERPILLAR bulldozer ! Always ifs and buts Quote

NikpV Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 service at 10k miles inteval or at yearly intervals. Have you got extra fixings in the floor in the middle row - apparently some 6 seaters had them - if so you just need the center seat with the lapbelt Quote
zah1r Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 I just converted my 1995 Galaxy Ghia 6 seater into a seven seater. Take out all seats. Lift cartpet and all will be revealed. Shift the two brackets for each of the outer seats towards the doors. Aquire two new mounting brackets from scrap yard or dealers and bolt these in the centre pair of mounitings. Cut carpet as neccesary. Aquire four new plastic covers and screw into place. Bob's your uncle...7 seater. Really is easy and self explanatory once you lift the carpet. My centre seat with lap belt cost Quote
AndeeeH Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 (edited) It you have Captain's chairs with the armrests, the armrests will have to be removed else the three seats wont fit across the middle. If you go to a breakers make sure you get the brackets for the middle row because the ones for the rear seats are slightly different and wont fit in the middle.
