I have been offered one of these, which I haven't yet had a chance to see. On the assumption that I can buy a middle seat for the middle row, a few questions arise:

Is the (post-2001) seat-belt for the middle seat in the roof still there, or do Ford remove it for cars delivered with 6 seats?

Can the armrests be removed easily (VW website claims this is possible for the Sharan) and without leaving unsightly holes?

Presumably the outer seat mountings in the floor are still present?

Are they any other traps in converting them (I guess the insurance company would have to be told).

Any assistance gratefully received.

A six seater that I saw at a garage once, did not appear to have all the 'holes in the floor'

But if you can sort it out and the seats happen to be in anthracite leather, then I'll swap two of my non armrested seats for two of your armrested ones!!

Me thinks that you only had early Ghia and Ultima with only 6 seats

And im sure floor pan was different i think they were designed for Elegance rather that practicallity.

But i could be wrong ( Dont tell the wife though <_< )

Pretty sure that I've seen a few 6-seaters that do not have the extra floor latches to take the seventh seat. As to the seatbelt, I also seem to remember that it wasn't fitted. You will need to visually check any potential purchase.

Seat SX model comes with the fridge fitted in place of one of the seats, so I suspect that it's the normal model with all seat anchoring points and the seventh belt in the roof. I've even seen one advertised by a dealer offering the 7th seat as part of the package so you can pick and choose from 7 seats or 6 plus the fridge.

There is no floor anchor for the old style lap belt, the seat itself has the anchor and belt attached, newer models have the 3 way belt from the roof mount.

I have a six seater and the two middle row seats mounting points are moved in slightly from the doors as compared to the 7 seater. There are not mounting points for three middle row seats unless they are holes hidden under the carpets.

My previous model was 7 seater and one of the reasons I went for the six seater was that I thought that the lap only belt on the middle seat was next to useless. Have a ride in a friends new model and see they now have full belts for the middle seat, oh well.

On the back row of seats in the six seater the left seat only has a centre armrest as there is not room for a left arm rest as the new Air Conditioning unit takes up too much space.

I also found that with seven seats and an adult in the middle, it really blocked your rear view in the mirror.

I have been looking in the brouchure for the face lifted model and the new shiney grill model, in the old brouchure it shows a 6 seater with no extra mounting holes in the floor but in the latest brouchure it shows the extra mounting holes in the 6 seater picture

another thing from looking at these picture's is that the cubby hole for the cd player is on the wrong side! yet both vehicles are rhd drive

MR T when you say the left hand seat has only one arm rest? depending on which way your faceing when looking at the car? is that the drivers side or the passenger side?

He means the side where the rear heating / air con stuff is. There is not enough space to fit an armrest. Hence that seat just has the armrest in the centre. The other seat (next to the rear cubby hole where the cd changer fits, is fine - it has both armrests.

that's what I figured but the brochure shows it a#se about face! if you look closely at the pictures in the brochure there are a couple of things that don't match the real thing! the cubby hole being on the wrong side in a few pictures the rear passenger playing on the PS2 without one being plugged in!

just goes to show you can never believe all that you read

You're right about that image but that's not all the anomalies in the brochure - there are several. Many of the images are computer generated and simply pratted about with.

If I remember correctly, this is really apparent in the new galaxy booklet where some of the images are identical to the old but somehow the ghia now has all the chrome bits added.

There's an image in the old gal brochure that shows a ghia but has a zetec trim that was never available on the ghia.

The new brochure shows a zetec with rear electric windows but does not qualify this by saying it's an optional extra

The new brochure shows switches on the centre floor console for rear electric quarter vents but it now has dual air con - this isn't possible, the two don't go together!

I have taken my two rear seats out ( I need a boot ) and I wondered if you can get some kind of plastic cover to go over the seat fixings as there`s always something small seems to drop down into there. Does anyone know if Ford do anything like this ?.....and has anybody got a spare load cover in grey they want to sell ?

VW do clip in covers for the seat mountings, no idea if you can get them over the counter but its worth a try asking

for the load cover try ebay usually a couple up for grabs on there in either the galaxy or sharan section

I just bought some clip in covers for the seat anchorage points a couple of weeks ago from my local vw dealer. Ford do not list them and don't even know what they are.

If I remember correctly, they were about

Hi, just wondered if anyone ever found out if it is possible to put the three seats in the middle row on a 6 seater galaxy?

I've not looked under the carpet yet but i can feel some indents where the seat mounts may be. I dont want to make a 7 seater, just to put 3 seats in the middle row to free up some room at the back for luggage etc!

Any info would be greatly appreciated

presumably you can feel the cut outs - would assume that holes for screws wound be there as well so how about trying to move a seat bracket into one as a trial - if you buy 12 more brackets you can get some of the plastic blanks for the current ones. I think the only way of finding out is to lift the carpet or cutout the carpet for one

Hi all

I have converted mine to a 7 seater. You need to buy (of course the seat) four metal brackets and eight plastic things like the ones shown in earlier posts in the thread. The threaded holes are already under the carpet . Then you need to remove the carpet ,cut the equivalent holes and bolt the new seat mountings in place.

My car did not have the roof mounted seat belt, so for the time I use the lap belt that came with the extra seat. Soon I 'm going to buy and fit the proper belt. I know the bracket to screw the belt reel is on the roof under the liner, I 'm not sure how I'll be able to modify the roof trim though...

Oh I forgot...

The seat brackets are easy to remove, you just have to find some suitable plastic covers for the holes in the upholstery, and a torx25 bit with a long 3/8"extension

Even if you only want to move the seat tothe 2nd row, you still need to buy the metal brackets that screw on the body floor ,cause the plastic "thingies" secure on them. And you need to have all the holes on the carpet covered .

Hope this is not confusing, see my English is not perfect !!

But wouldn't you need to inform your insurance and DVLA that your car is now a 7 Seater and no longer a 6 ??
