wobble67 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Hi I'm new to the forum and have a problem with my 2001 Galaxy TDI 115bhp My remote key went flat and now the car won't start. I have replced the worn batteries and set up the key with the 3 turn mode and the remote now works fine. However the car starts for only 1 second and cuts out. I have noticed the LED on the drivers door flashing so have assumed it is the immobiliser/PAT thats the problem.I don't have any more keys to try and the car has been unusable for 2 days now. My wife is very unhappy as she has to walk everywhere with 6 month old twins and I cant afford to get it to the dealers. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated Thanks Quote
mk2vr6 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 sounds like the chip in the key has fallen out! possible when you changed the battery? it has happened a few times before! Quote
wobble67 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 Hi Thanks for the reply I did read that elswhere in this forum and someone has posted a picture of the chip. Unfortunatly I can't download the picture so don't know what to look for.The main PCB and bits are in the key, as I said the remote is working ok now. Is there another chip supposed to be in there? NikpV Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) yes there is - here is the picture - you will need to reply to this post to give you 3 posts in total before you can see the image the middle bit - the same as in a remote key edit:this is currently in the mk3 technical section so I will move it to the mk2/mk1 section Edited March 28, 2008 by NikpV Quote
wobble67 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 Thanks for the reply and moving me to the correct section! My key is different to the one in the picture. Mine is the 2 button remote control type and I cant see where there might be a chip fitted (or missing from) any ideas Quote
NikpV Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) ok - just taken my remote apart - here is a macro shot of the blade end of the key - red arrowed part is the pats chip bloody hell what a narrow depth of field !!! Edited March 28, 2008 by NikpV Quote
wobble67 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 Thanks for the picture very helpful. Unfortunately my wife has just admitted she opened the key this morning to look at what battery to get and she may have lost the chip as it is missing.I have looked everywhere in the kitchen (behind fridge, washer, drier, cooker) but cant find it. can it be replaced and reset or should I think about selling a child to pay for a new immobiliser (only joking) :D Quote
NikpV Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 oops -- options are limited you need two keys to self program so these options will give you 2 keys so you can get cheap keys and program yourself (3 keys will allow you to lose one and still program) no other key - get car transported to dealers + 2 new keys ( Quote
NikpV Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) time to take kitchen apart again ........ btw timpsons can cut the key for Edited March 28, 2008 by NikpV Quote
wobble67 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 Well My wife has swept up today and emptied the bin. Looks like I'm going through the wheely bin! talk about a needle in a haystack wish me luck! Quote
gregers Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 WIFE TOOK IT APART= wife looks through bin, then tell her if she cant find it she pays or make sure she keeps you smiling for a good few weeks :D   Quote
ini Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 If it is the older Philips fixed code 'static' transponder chip, you can get the one in your complete main key 'cloned' at any good auto-locksmith, giving you 2 working ignition keys again. If it is the later Philips crypto 'rolling code' type, a very good auto-locksmith or the dealer is required. Quote
wobble67 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 UPDATE ! The bin has not delivered! Looks like I'm browsing eBay and saving up for the dealers. Can life get any worse, my cars grounded and I've spent over an hour going through the bin of waste and dirty nappies........yuk and now I'm going to get shafted for at least Quote
ini Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 (edited) Do you still need a minimum of two keys coded for the vehicle to start on the 2001 model? Does it still use the master & slaves setup? Edited March 29, 2008 by ini Quote

gregers Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 try what another member has recently done, obtain a metal detector and check the contents of the bin again.and surrounding area. Quote
wobble67 Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 Final Update Thanks for all your help on this I had an idea and rang the previous owner who came up trumps with a spare key for my car! I have now taken the chip out of the standard key and installed it in my remote key and normal life has resumed. I also e-mailed a seller on ebay who has sent me a new chip for my spare key so I will give it a go to set up with the instructions in my handbook. Thanks again for your help you have saved me a fortune Quote

macssafc Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 i have a problem which is like the one stated at the start of the post my problem is the immobiliser door light is flashing when i try to start the car, i can hear the fuel pump engaging and a click noise i have a remote key and a normal type key. ive not changed the batteries in the remote key sometimes the door light will be on so i can fire it up and other times it wont play ball at all ive tried the other key and i get the same problem. is this likely to be r30 relay or somthing else as im not sure after searching the other posts? cheers in advance Quote
sip Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) macssafc I too have started having the same problem: the immobiliser light on the door flashes twice then stays on -- I have three keys, one with a built-in torch, and two identical keys, one with red fob the other with black fob (which is my main key), and none of the keys will start the engine, which turns over just fine. My garage tells me the mass air flow meter is showing a fault -- does anyone know if this will cause a starting problem?----------1996 Galaxy 2.0GLX Auto Edited May 15, 2008 by sip Quote
narbar123 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Hi, i was just wondering if anyone knew where the immobiliser was located on the 1996 ford galaxy 2 litre? thanks Dean Quote
