JohnR Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Have winter tyres fitted on my Gal at the moment. Picked them up cheap on some alloys that I'm now reselling. They have now done the business and taken me to the alps and back last week (came back in a blizzard, followed snowplough over Col du Montet at about 1600m!). Was very glad to have the snow tyres, and managed to avoid putting the chains on. Question now is, at what ambient temperature do winter tyres start to wear quickly? I need to save up a bit before getting some nice alloys and summer tyres, keeping this set for alpine trips. They have a fair bit of meat on them at the moment so think I can afford to wait a while... They are ContiWinterContacts, TS790V's if that helps at all. Thanks guys,John Quote
JohnR Posted March 27, 2008 Author Report Posted March 27, 2008 Bump..... No one else used winter tyres in warmer weather then? How many miles could I expect to get if I kept them on? Thanks,John Quote
mk2vr6 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 no idea? but the design of the tyre is specificall designed for use in colder and wetter conditions! in most case a winter tyre has a higher silica for a better grip on snow and ice, has more sipes and a deeper tread pattern to displace water and dig deeper in the snow to get a better bite! apart from that? you got them cheap so unless your going to keep them till your trip to the slopes? keep an eye on them and see how they go? JohnR Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 I certainly did get em cheap. I just sold the alloys back on ebay for Quote
