_dg Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 (edited) I am getting a clicking/buzzing sound from near the glove box when the air con is on. It sounds like a relay or switch 'hunting'. Does anyone know what this is and what I should be checking - would it be fixable or is a new part required before I start to do any dismantling Thanks Edit: don't know where the vehicle info has gone from the left, but its a 2.3 zetec, 2000 old shape model Edited March 20, 2008 by _dg Quote
Stevoo Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Everytime your aircon fan goes to spin the relay clicks, to stop this just make sure you have the "ECCON" displayed on your climate control display. Quote
Stevoo Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Ok well you should have a switch on dash which looks like a "snowflake", if the yellow light is on then aircon will be enabled, press it so light goes out and see if the noise/click goes away. Quote

This "hunting" mean, that A/C clutch start Quote
JONESERIC Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Hi Located on the RHS behind the glove box is the evaporator core, this component is co-located with the heater matrix. The relay sound you are hearing is most likely the front tempreture flap operating. Also located adjacent to the evaporator is the heater blower motor. I am in the process of teaching myself AIRCON for dummies. The detialed diagnostic procedures are straight forward but it is the almost casual way the TIS says replace component and test! big_kev Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 Has summer started? Must have...no ones complaining about their booster heaters not working. Quote
RobC Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 I have the same problem. Mk 1 Galaxy. Air Con (not climate control). The clicking is intermittent, from behind the temp controls or glovebox. When the relay (assuming thats what it is) finishes a burst of clicking, sometimes the air con will work. More often than not, the clicking ends up in the wrong state and the air con doesn't work. I can see a black box shape behind the lower of the two gloveboxes in the passenger side. This black box has an Air Con label on it, but I don't know what it is. Looks like I need to take the top glove box off to gain access to it. Does anyone know how to remove this glove box (I can get the lower one off). Or does anyone know what this black box is and if it's related to the clicking sound??? Thanks! Quote
ozi Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 hi newbie here, i have a problem with my air con on my 51 plate 1.9 TDi zetec, it doesnt seem to switch on at all, the yellew light on the AC button when pressed comes on and thats about it, whilest changing the oil the other day i founed that a U bend pipe was snaped so i have fixed it with some leak-fix paste and fibre glass, which i raped around the pipe, it seems to have done the job of holding the pipe in place now i need to find out if the loss of gas in the system prevents the air con coming on or do i have a relay that isnt working?....i hope someone out there can help me out on this one.
