jonnyp Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Hi, I have a 07 2.0TDCI Ghia and was amazed to find no spare wheel is fitted, just the repair kit! Should have read the small print! Has anyone found a space saver wheel to fit (16'' alloys are fitted) for those long journeys when you are in the middle of no where and you have just shredded a tyre! Thanks in advance Jon Quote
AndyBee Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 I dare say you could find something at a breakers or on Ebay - say from a Focus with 16" alloys. Although you then have to find somewhere to put it, and the Galaxy has not been designed with a spare of any kind in mind. An alternative approach is to keep up your breakdown recovery subscription (only 12mths comes std with a new car), and hope for the best ! It is probably quite rare to damage a tyre to the extent that the repair kit would not work. It is probably more realistic that you have a repairable puncture (eg a nail in the centre of the tread) and don't want to trash your tyre by injecting it with sticky foam (and then having to replace both your tyre and the canister of foam). jonnyp Posted March 21, 2008 Author Report Posted March 21, 2008 Thanks Andy, the day I joined the forum my wife called me to say that a large piece of metal had trashed the NS rear! Luckily I had just added her to the AA but when taken to a tyre dealer by the AA you have no choice but to pay the full retail price as the car has to be fixed. Boy are these tyres expensive. I was hoping to find a space saver that would fit as that should sit in the back quite nicely but i have now realised that it doesn't have a jack either. I think Ford have missed the point a bit on this subject. Overall we are really pleased with the Galaxy! Quote

I think Ford have missed the point a bit on this subject. add them to list of manufactureres not providing spare wheels, well it would easier to list those that do! tbh how many times have you used the spare before? me? 6-7 years of not carrying one and not needing one in all that time, 95000+ miles done in the last two years in my works van and only used the spare once and that was in the last month! either I've been very lucky or your very unlucky? GaryM Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Must admit I was surprised too, especially for a car of this size. I expected it with my mini, small car, little space, weight saving, tight budgets but backed up with run-flats! With a car the size of Galaxy that you could reasonably expect to be doing lots of miles loaded with lots of people. More weight and cornering forces on the tires etc. I think it is potentially dangerous. Would not like my wife to get caught out on the side of the motorway with the kids. Sod's law dictates that it would be in the middle of the night cold, raining, motorway, drivers side. What are they thinking? Advice for what it is worth... Check your pressures regularly (that will save you fuel too.). Read the manual for the inflation kit today, before you need it. Quote
jonnyp Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks Gary! I share your concerns about the wife and the 3 kids in the back! We are driving to Ireland this weekend, loaded up to the max I guess. I really need that space saver! I dont want to be buying a roof box to put a full size rim and tyre into. The car looks just fine without it!! Jon Quote
