AndyBee Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 I have a MKIII Galaxy with the optional (Ghia X pack) 17 inch wheels. I managed to pick up a small nail in the side of the tyre today and it came as a bit of a shock to discover that replacement tyres are about Quote
mk2vr6 Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 (edited) 225/50/17's according to the paperwork? IIRC? it could be because the Ghia X pack 17'' rims come with run flats which are an expensive option when it comes to replacement time! Edited March 17, 2008 by mk2vr6 Quote

AndyBee Posted March 21, 2008 Author Report Posted March 21, 2008 Sorry to be slow on the response, but as Mk2VR6 says, they are size 225/50 17 98W XL. They are Michelin Excellence(s), but not the run flat version. I think the 98W XL makes a difference as this means they are designed for heavy loads (XL=eXtra Load). I think there is a 94W (without the "XL") also available. Run flats are more expensive to replace, and although they presumably can be driven for some distance with a puncture, I understand that they cannot be repaired, so work out a more expensive option on both counts - worth bearing in mind when spec'ing your car. Both my own experience, and bluefluffybunny's comments above, suggest Kwik Fit should be approached with caution ! Quote
