Hi, my 2001 2.3i Gal is in desperate need of an oil change but being extremely skint at the mo I have a supply of oil in the garage I'd like to use (I have bought a new filter).

Problem is it's 10w-60! This stuff is top quality Agip Racing fully synthetic to API SG standard but I've seen some posts here referring to Galaxy's being fussy about oil.

The standard oil weight is 5w-30, but my reasoning is that I don't need protection down to -30C and the "thinner more slippery" nature of fully synth should overcome any cold start/cranking issues.

The 60 just gives protection at extreme temperatures to the standard of a 60 weight oil, it doesn't actually mean it's "extra thick" just that It's a multigrade oil that covers a wide range!

I don't think I'd be doing any damage using it and any fresh oil going in there is better than the muck that's in there now, and another "expert" I've asked has agreed that it would be OK to use.

But I figured you guys would know the truth! Any opinions/advice gratefully received, thanks...

You have a PD engine.oil used must be for a PD engine.

If PD means diesel, then I don't have a PD engine (unless I'm very confused, but it's run all right on petrol for the last 7 years!!)
