Deanoecosse Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I've just seen a list of the new VED rates after the budget yesterday (pic attached). It doesnt look that great for us people carrier drivers and a lot of other "normal" cars. Unfortunately it looks like we're gonna be digging a fair bit deaper for our Road Tax now.Does anyone have a list of what VED bands each Galaxy model is in? From what I recall my current tax costing (2.3 petrol) I'll be paying Quote
oblique Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/ This seems to calculate it for you, i am ok as have a pre 2001 sharan. Quote
thelastmanstanding Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 well now its just another snafuhowever we were in the throws of thinking that we should get a newer model but on reflection of this we think that we'll just keep the old gal she's only got 72K and minor problems so we'll just put off getting another till she gives up the ghost she who must be obeyed says 'well get your butt out of that chair and go and get the old gal polished up' and I've to go and get a private plate just to spruce her up a bit ah well as I said just another snafuback fires a wee bit if we who have older gals just keep them running along and put off the purchase of that newer model thank you Darling you just added to the value of my old gal Quote

davewill Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Can someone explain why the Gal Auto model is more expensive to tax than a manual? I had a 2002 Zetec 1.9TDI Manual previously. It did around 35-40 to the gallonTax on this model from March onwards is Quote

MrT Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 It is all down to the C02 emissions of the vehicle which are usually higher for autos. I don't know the various Galaxy figures but mine is near 300g. The top class in 2008/9 for cars registered after 1 Mar 2001 but prior to 23 March 2006 is band F (above 186g) and for cars registered after 23 March 2006 there is a higher band G (above 226g). In 2009/10 there is a new range of classes (H-M) for all registration dates after 1 Mar 2001 and many vehicles will move up a class or more depending on their emissions. Quote
sparky Paul Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I think I'll keep my old '99 Gal too. 2001-on 2.3 Zetec manual will go up from Quote

Might be a good idea to do a poll on this one!! I can't beleive the twisting sods have jacked the gals into the higher band based on their age - Both of mine have a co2 levle of 178 which isn't too bad at all -This is just another revenue raising exercise by our Scottish mafia. Not only scottish but also mostly bloody lawye. Have a look at the cabinet- out of 18 ministers 9 are Lawyers, and 11 are Scots - ( I have nothing against the Scots). What a bunch of low life robbing two faced shirt lifting rear end shunting no goods! Quote
Scope Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Why is it that all the C02 emissions calculators only list Galaxy post 2006? Even the governments DirectGov website only has the post 2006 model: DirectGov CO2 Search I've got a 2003, 1.9 TDI, Zetec, Auto, but no idea how much CO2 its giving - so no idea what my roadtax will be next year. The vca site only gives data for new cars. There is another one which is very comprehensive and gives all the data... http://www.smmtco2.co.uk/co2search2.asp ...but I think the Parkers link given above tells you what you need to know. http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=19351 It says yours is band F. MrT Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 From what I can see the Parkers guide lists mine as an F at 278g which is correct and it will cost Quote

DaveJH Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 The CO2 rating for my 2005 1.9TDI is listed on the vehicle registration document as 173 g/Km (the actual emission rate depends on the particular variant of the 1.9 TDI engine -i.e. power rating- others vriants may be lucky and just slip under the magic 171g/Km fiigure). That puts my vehicle in the current Band E at Quote
