andymet Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 HiMy brakes are quite hard at low revs (mk 2 diesel galaxy 115bhp) and from a search it looks like it could be a split in the vacuum pipebetween the pump and the srevo. Stupid question, can anyone advise where the vacuum pump is and also the servo? had a quick look with a torch and found a plastic dome on the front of the engine with a vacuum pipe going to behind the air filter near the fluid reservoir but don't think this is it. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Andy Met Quote
andymet Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 HiJust bringing this to the top, could do with some help from anyone who has changed this vacuum pipe please. Quote
mk2vr6 Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 vacuum pump is an integral part of the fuel pump! and the servo? you cant miss it! above the brake pedal in the engine bay  Quote
johngalaxy Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I was just doing some reserch on this today because i have the same problem, i think. sometimes you can hear a hissing noise when you press the break pedal. andymet Posted March 29, 2008 Author Report Posted March 29, 2008 Hi I have bought a new vacuum pipe from ford, it was Quote
andymet Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 HiJust an update on this one. Fitted the new pipe today and sure enough the pipe was cracked where it goes into the none return valve (both sides gone) Fitting the new one resuted in a flat nose as when I got to the end of the street on the test drive and applied the brakes, I nearly went through the screen. Just shows how you don't spot deteriation over a period of time. For a quick tempory fix you could wrap rubber amalagmating tape around the pipe, the none return valve is situated about 6" to the left of the fuel filter, it has two take offs coming out, one with a tube and one blanked off. Ford part number for a mk2 diesel vacuum pipe is 1357764 Andy met Quote
sniper Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I was just about to start searching for a fault like this one. After braking, when the pedal is released there is quite a bit of hissing. Even more under load - when the vacuum, increases.Eventually it stops, but it certainly is something that started happening in the last few weeks. Before I run off to the dealer's and start stripping down the car - can anyone tell me if this is a good first resort? Thanks. Quote
andymet Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 Hi SniperLocate the none return valve and see if the pipe slips on and off it. If it does it is definately cracked. A new vacuum pump is Quote
bofus Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Thanks for the info, mine has just gone too. For info, the small vacuum takeoff powers EGREngine shutdown valveTurbo wastegate or vane controlHeater fresh/air recirc control Quote
