searcher Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Well i had to pop to my Seat dealer today to get half of a front grill which flew out the other day when an artic wizzed past me blowing it out.Anyway, whilst there i asked if they could program the new spare key i bought off Ebay months ago.I just needed it programing for the imobiliser. Now the key in quwstion has a VW logo on it. When i bought it i made sure it was the correct frequency etc as my old one and it was.Whem Mr Seat fix it man looked at the new key he said it may not work due to being a VW key.We have had this problem before.Anyway he said hell give it a go and off he went.20 mins later he came back and said sorry but as i thought i tried it twice but just keeps comming up with an error code.Whilst i was very pleased with the service i received (Holders of Congresbury) because i just turned up without an appointment and didnt have to pay a penny i was i bit miffed as to why the key didnt work. Why would the fact it has VW stamped on it make a difference.Even MR fix it Seat man said it should work fine but for some strange reason it doesnt and it wasnt the first time he had this problem. They want Quote
NikpV Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 take them apart and compare the numbers on the pats chip - we have seen this before - can seat supply just the chip - since you are sorting out the immobiliser the frequency of the remote central locking transponder shouldnt make any difference Quote

searcher Posted March 12, 2008 Author Report Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) chip looks like this I was expecting to see a battered cod there as well  Yup thats the boy.Thats where i got my numbers from.So the way i see it the key should work as they are the same :D Edited March 12, 2008 by ?adrianf? searcher Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 Well i just took both keys apart again to have one more look inside.OH BUGGERThe number on the chip IS the same on both keys but the new key has the letter F after it.Anyone got an idea if this is what is causing the programing problem and apart from getting another key is there a cheaper way around it CheersAdrian. NikpV Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 why dont you buy a stanard (non remote) key from seat(ford charged me Quote
searcher Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 I thought about that but when i asked how much a standard key was they told me the same price which i find hard to believe.I didnt realise the chip came out of the key. Had a look at that earlier and it looks like the chip is moulded into the key on the flip style one.Dont really want to force it too much or i will be up the creek without a paddle  .May try another Seat dealer next week on the price of a standard key Quote
NikpV Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Yes if you only had one key then ford would charge for at least 30mins to program but given that the seat dealer tried to program it FOC I thought that your special relationship with them would make it cheaper Quote
searcher Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 It was only FOC because they couldnt do it.Otherwise it was also going to be 30 mins labour which i think was about Quote
