Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 PCV = positive crankcase ventilation valve/system Quote
seatkid Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I wonder how they clean that, do they pull it apart and wash it out? And with what? Quote
gazza007 Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Turned on ignition yesterday & noticed in odometer window display had changed saying service 1800 miles. Never seen this before. Funny last service was only 6K ago surley should be a bit more. Have I enabled this indicator in some way or is it something the dealer turns on. I wonder if it happened during my air-con fix a few weeks ago.Can I turn it off? Quote
seatkid Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 On a Mk 1 with ignition off, press and hold trip button, turn ignition on and after 4 or 5 secs the service indicator clears. Never seen a dealer reset this indicator properly, I believe intervals are programmable via VAGCOM.Might be different with yours, try a search. Quote
gazza007 Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Thinking about it when I filled up with diesel & maybe I was resetting trip while turning iginition on. I will see if it is possible to reset, if so I will do it again after next service. Quote
iainkirk Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 The reset is the same on current Shalaxies... Bizarelly, Galaxy handbook even tells you how to reset it... Quote
gazza007 Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Tried the reset, first mileage went to zero then turned on ignition still pushing down, display cleared completely, just showing word "Service" released, the after 10 secs original mieage trip reading came back. But on start-up service warning still showing??????? :o Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Think you've pressed it too long or too short. Once the word service appears, keep pressing for a few more seconds then release. Should be OK - I did mine a few weeks ago, I think the battery change in December confused it - and that's probably what did in my CD autochanger too (now mercifully restored to proper working order). seatkid Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 When the display clears, release the trip button and turn the ignition off straight away. Quote
HJT Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 Well just had the 30,000 mile service done on mine. Quote
seatkid Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 Unfortunately they damaged the thread on the sump plug so it wouldn't tighten so the car was in for a day and a half just for a service. Muppets! Quote
HJT Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 Couldn't have put it better myself  Howard Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Just started ringing around for my 30,000 mile/3-year service booking. Seems to be a cartel in this area - all around Quote
seatkid Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004  I feel a song coming on...If I were a rich man ..... dabadabadaba..... Ivor you should know by now its all for health reasons, they're pre-conditioning you for the BIG ONE (40,000) .Customers have to pre conditioned otherwise they go into cardiac shock. I believe it part of their liability insurance requirements ;) Anyway PD oil is reeeellly expensive (is that 20/50 Fred?) and the 134 point check is...hold on.... thats Vauxhall...  (sung to conga rythm) my skodas got no cambelt, it hasnt got a MAF thing, no undertray, no need to pay..... Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 40,000 mile isn't the BIG one on the facelifted models - it's a "minor" one at 10,000 and 20,000 then a big one at 30,000 then repeat this cycle (minor at 40k and 50k, major at 60k etc etc). Seeing the other new post ref the cost for a 10k service only emphasises that we are being ripped off. Almost worth my while driving to Preston to get the work done.... Quote
Tigger Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 It becomes big when you have to have the cambelt changed? Quote
seatkid Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Ivor is evidendently planning on changing his cambelt using 2 by 1 and some bungee cords!   (Just a joke , Ivor), seriously I now refuse point blank to entertain any Shalaxy dealer......all tarred with the same brush as far as I am concerned..... <_< Quote
Guest V6KID Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 Just booked my 2001 V6 in for it's 40k service - quoted me Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 Don't know what is involved with the V6 but it sounds expensive (unless the plugs get changed too, and if they are platinum tipped it will cost...) Quote
iainkirk Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 Ivor, BIG service is 40,000 miles = Cambelt change. (on PD) 10,000 miles was Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 40,000 mile service on V6 - don't they have chain driven cams? And as for me, on my present low mileage, I won't get to 40,000 miles in 4 years so will leave the cambelt change for a year or two longer (unless I get lucky and change the car before then - looking for the next-gen Galaxy in 2006).
